Evaluating the Composition of Books, Plays and Short Stories Assignment You will individually choose one book, one play and one short story. You will then analyze those items; making note of the descriptive groups of the characters in them. The descriptive groups consist of: the number of males, number of females, the ages and races of the characters in relation to the total number of characters. Then in groups that I assign, you will discuss your books, plays and short stories; comparing results. As a group, you will choose one book, one play and one short story (different from the ones your group has already discussed) and discuss the descriptive groups in these. The groups should note how the descriptive composition of the characters in the materials they analyze as a group compare to the descriptive composition of the characters in those that they analyzed on their own. Your group will then use this information to create a spreadsheet in Microsoft excel that details the distribution of the descriptive groups. You will in turn, use the spreadsheet to create a chart to visually represent their findings. Upon completion of the spreadsheet and chart, your group will create an analytical report and share your findings with the class. Finally, you will individually, journal about what your findings mean to and for you (as an author, playwright and individual).
