Lesson Planning Cycle
Pre-Planning Requirements:
1.
Map the entire year’s curriculum based on the ECISD school calendar. Consider all school programs, early
release days, benchmark testing, etc… Divide IFDs into appropriately due to number of teaching days.
2.
Review TEKS Resource System IFDs and plan highly effective research-based lessons for units.
3.
Use the TEKS Verification Document to check your work.
4.
Review previous year’s state assessment and common assessment data for your grade/subject to determine
which TEKS need special attention before planning begins
5.
Come prepared to discuss appropriate guiding questions, performance indicators, resources (videos, digital
content, etc.), and unit tests/essays/projects
6.
Prepare to share information from workshops attended, Project Share, technology found, or other professional
development
Curriculum Planning Agenda:
1.
Discuss IFDs for all units to be taught during upcoming nine-week period (Pay attention to essential vocabulary)
2.
Consult your Curriculum Map for the scope of the nine week period (Pacing) – ex. – We must finish to unit X
before the next common assessment
3.
Look at data to determine if particular TEKS need special attention
4.
Preview 9 weeks assessment
5.
Select unit tests/projects and/or formative assessments to be given
6.
Select and plan performance indicators to be implemented
7.
Identify appropriate resources (videos, digital content, etc.) and materials needed
8.
Propose higher level guiding questions for lessons
9.
Read MISCONCEPTIONS/UNDERDEVELOPED CONCEPTS on the IFD
10.
Share information from workshops attended, Project Share, technology found, or other professional
development
Data Disaggregation Agenda:
1. Print Scantrons if applicable
2. Administer Test or Formative Assessment
3. Scan Scantrons, use Response System or other data collecting modes
4. Department meets at a common time within 2 days of scoring
5. Department reflects on the following reports if test were administered through Eduphoria:
 Test Administration Summary, Student SE Breakdown with AEIS Indicators, Item Analysis, Heat Maps, Quintiles,
and others deemed necessary by the department
 Look for teacher transparency
 Look at how the test question asked the TEKS
 Look at the TEKS for review of effective vs. ineffective instructional strategies
 For all other assessment:
 Look for teacher transparency
 Look at how the test question asked the TEKS
 Look at the TEKS for review of effective vs. ineffective instructional strategies
 Teacher list of students that failed
 Department vs. individual documentation of reteach, intervention, or remediation
6. Teachers complete the following self-assessment prior to the meeting:
 Percent score overall and by sub-populations
 Percent met satisfactory




Factors believed to impact test performance
Plan of action for students who fail
