In Mr. Calderon’s Classroom What’s a Procedure? What’s an Expectation? A procedure is the set of actions for how to do something. An expectation is the level to which I will hold you accountable for your actions, and vice versa. Why are there no “rules”? There are! A rule is just something that results in a consequence when broken. Failure to follow proper procedures and ignore expectations will result in some form of an appropriate consequence. Loss of points, parent conference, detention, missing out on “luxury activities”, etc. Enter the room quietly You don’t have to be silent, but DO NOT be disruptive. Model? Begin to work on the posted Bell Work immediately Be in your seat when the bell rings If you want to talk to someone before class, do so in the hallway Otherwise you are tardy Leave the room as you entered it The bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do Course Work All coursework needs this generic heading unless otherwise specified Name, Assignment, Hour, & Date I will model both the paper and digital version Use the front and back of your paper, or print dual-sided Write on the lines of your paper only Digital work: double-spaced, 12 pt. font, Times New Roman Use the appropriately labeled inbox when handing in paper work. Email or share via Google Docs all digital work Late work will not be accepted without a valid reason Excused absence, were given additional time, etc. Have a question during my instruction? Quietly raise your hand and I will call on you. I may not do so immediately but I will acknowledge you and then call on you when able Have a question during group or individual work? 3 before me…otherwise same protocol as above Need to leave class? If I’m instructing, try to wait until after I’m done unless it’s an emergency Don’t raise your hand and ask to do so. Just bring an already prepared hall pass for me to sign Abuse of this privilege will result in the loss of it Need to sharpen your pencil? Wait to do so until after instruction Use of Personal Technology You are allowed to have it Listen to music when allowed Use it as a resource when allowed But…do not use any unauthorized technology during a quiz, test, or any individual/group work where prohibited. Abuse of this will result in its confiscation Repeated abuse will result in you not being able to bring it to this class again Daily Objectives Be Prepared Arrive each day with all your materials 3-ring binder with 4 separator tabs Pencil or Pen, preferably a Pencil Paper (at least loose leaf from your binder) Have all assignments ready to hand-in that are due Beginning of class, unless otherwise specified Come to class ready to learn!! If you have a question or comment, tell me If you think I made a mistake, tell me Be constructive though Be Respectful Respect school & other people’s property Don’t write on desks Don’t stuff anything down the sink Leave other people’s property alone unless given permission Respect others Don’t push, shove, hit, slap, or bump others…period I don’t care if you’re “playing”…don’t do it Don’t verbally attack, talk bad about, or bully others Same applies to this class (constructive criticism) Respect yourself Understand that the primary person to suffer from your negative actions is you Be Open-Minded Be open to new ideas and concepts While you should always be skeptical, be willing to change your mind in light of overwhelming evidence Have a good attitude when taking part in class activities Be willing to recognize that you deserve an education Be willing to recognize that you may be capable of a lot more than you currently realize Don’t let the past hold you back…focus on the present and prepare for the future All of this applies to me too!!
