LORNE PARK SECONDARY SCHOOL - MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT MPM2D0/D Prerequisite: MPM1D0/E Text: McGraw-Hill Ryerson Principles of Mathematics 10 Replacement cost: $ 100.00 Assessments and Evaluations: Assessments will be based on both formative and summative processes. Formative Assessments are learning practices that provide feedback to student progress. Examples include homework, peer assessments, conferencing. Learning Skills include working independently, organization, work habits, team work, and initiative. The development and consistent practice of these skills will influence academic achievement. Summative Assessments are the basis of the term mark in this course. Achievement will be based on the four categories: Knowledge and Understanding, Application, Communication and Thinking, Inquiry, and Problem Solving (TIPS). Assessment Breakdown Term: Final Evaluation - Exam: 70% 30% Course Description Unit Linear Systems Unit Breakdown Solving by graphing, algebra and technology, regression using technology, applications. It is not acceptable to advise the teacher of difficulty the day before or on the day that an assessment is due/taking place. Assignments are due at the beginning of the period on the due date. Once the assignments are marked and returned to students, missed assignments will receive a mark of 0 (zero). Students will be notified of a test or performance task in advance. Quizzes (announced or unannounced) can be given during any class period. Tests and quizzes will be marked and returned to students as soon as possible. Guidelines for Missed Evaluations If a quiz or test is missed, a note must be brought to the teacher on the first day back to school. This note must be signed by a parent or guardian and must explain the reason for the absence from the evaluation. In addition, the letter must state that the parent or guardian was aware that a test was missed. Any student who misses an evaluation but attends some portion of the same school day is required to see the teacher that same day. Make-up Evaluations will be according to the following guidelines School Activities or Appointments: Students who have a conflict with a test because of a school activity or medical appointment are expected to negotiate an alternate test date with the teacher at least 2 days before the test. Illness or other legitimate Absence: On the first day back to school, the student must be prepared to write the test or a make-up (an alternate date may be determined by the teacher where appropriate.) For an extended absence, the teacher may determine a reasonable date for the evaluation. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES WILL RESULT IN A MARK OF 0 (ZERO) Course Guidelines / MPM2D0 / Revised September 2014
