Students will improve their skills with vocabulary, operations, calculations, and applications of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and pre-algebra. 2. Students will become better prepared to improve their ACCUPLACER math scores. Section: Location: Days & Time: MATH-002 Lowry Campus 115 Monday and Wednesday, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm Materials: CCA student email account Desire2Learn (D2L) Access Paper, Pens, Pencils, calculator (optional) Course Requirements 1.) Participation, Preparedness, and Attentiveness = 50% of final grade Regular attendance is expected. Participation is required, and includes but is not limited to the following: o Completing all homework assignments before the due date. o Effort and active participation during in-class discussions and activities. o Quieting phones and technological devices. Students may use devices for class purposes, but please make sure they do not interrupt the class. o Being respectful and attentive to the instructor and other students. 2.) Workshops & in-class Assessments = 50% of final grade During each class session, students will participate in in-class workshops with other students, and one-on-one and small group consulting sessions with the instructor. Students will complete written exercises in mathematics that will be assessed. Assessments and workshops may be provided in the form of a practice test. Desire 2 Learn (D2L) Access to D2L is made through the CCA portal on the CCA.edu homepage. Below are some tips for accessing information with D2L: Desire2Learn performs better using Firefox so that is the recommended browser. To log in: Username: Your Student ID (S#) Password: The default password is your birthday (MMDDYY). Once in the portal you will be instructed to reset YOUR PASSWORD. Click on Login. Summer, 2015 1 Upon entering the CCA portal on your computer, go to the “Student” tab. In the upper lefthand corner there is a box labeled “Student Schedule.” Click on the section link to access your Desire2Learn classes. This will take you to all of the courses you are registered for at RRCC. Once there, you can access the ECE 101 course where you will find syllabus, assignments, and drop boxes for submitting assignments as well as a listing of your grades. You can also contact me via the email function in Desire2Learn. (Please Read) If using Internet Explorer, some files may not open up. To correct the situation: 1. Launch Internet Explorer 2. From the Tools menu select Internet Options 3. Click the Security tab 4. Click the Custom Level button 5. Scroll down to “Downloads” 6. Enable “Automatic prompting for file downloads” HELPDESK: 1-888-800-9198 or http://help.cccs.edu The 24x7 helpdesk is staffed with people trained to answer questions about: Log-ins - Registration System - Student email - Desire2Learn Attendance Students must notify a CCA Navigator and the instructor, by email, if they are going to miss class. If a student misses 3 classes they must meet with a CCA Navigator to establish a plan of action before returning to class. This class relies heavily on in-class participation. Your attendance is critical to how well you learn the content of this course. Progress Reports Students will be given two progress reports over the course of the semester July 27 and August 24. At these points, navigators, instructors and students will review student progress. D2L is another tool to keep track of attendance and progress during the course of the semester.
