From the Word…
“Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say
that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, but others Elijah, and still others
Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter
answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you,
Simon son of Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven. And I tell
you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against
it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."” Matthew 16:13-19

Anglican News & Events – 20 August 2014
At the recent clergy conference we committed to pray for the fulfillment of God’s will for
ChristChurch Cathedral and we ask clergy and laity of this Diocese and further afield to simply
pause and pray at noon each day that God’s will might be done to resolve the issues
surrounding the Cathedral building in the Square. Please feel encouraged to share this prayer
request with Christian friends across the world.
Congratulations to our four new priests ordained last Friday evening: Mary Minson; Stephanie
Robson; Sam Knight; and Josh Taylor.
Thank you to the Ven Anne Russell-Brighty who has accepted appointment as the Acting

St Stephen’s, Tamahere – Full time Vicar
A Christian family extending God’s love to our community and our world.
Applications are invited for the full-time position of Vicar to the Mission District of St Stephen’s,
Tamahere.
St Stephen’s is conveniently located between Cambridge and Hamilton, but is a church in a
rural park-like setting. The church hosts a thriving monthly Country Market Day, enjoys close
relationships with local schools and the retirement village, and extends ministry to the church
of St David’s, Matangi. The enduring and much-loved Christmas Festival is a highlight of the
parish calendar.
Worship has been offered on the site of St Stephen’s for nearly 150 years, but the existing
church buildings date from the 1970s, with alterations made in 2003. The result is a plant that
serves the congregation well, with an integrated crèche that keeps children connected with
worship. There is one main Sunday morning service, with ministries tailored for groups offered
regularly: men’s and women’s fellowships, Tots and Tunes, and an annual Light Party.
St Stephen’s is a mission district in more than name: the church is diligent in tithing proceeds
from market days, supporting the work of Anglican Action and a number of other charities.
The new Vicar at St Stephen’s will be blessed by a welcoming, inclusive church family full of
potential to respond to those in need. This enthusiastic parish will welcome a pastoral teamplayer, and looks for leadership to develop youth ministry, worship, and community outreach.
More information about the Mission District of Tamahere and the Diocese of Waikato and
Taranaki is available from the Bishop of Waikato, The Rt Rev’d Dr. Helen-Ann Hartley, via the
Diocesan website www.waiktaotaranakianglican.org.nz or Executive Assistant, Jill Schumacher,
email: ea@waikatoanglican.org.nz, phone: (07) 857 0020.

thanksgivings together.

Fund-raising Ferrets
John Stringer’s brother in law, Murray Dixon, died in June 2013 leaving unsold, thousands of
copies of 2 hard cover children’s books (about Hornsnoggle Ferret) that he had written,
together with a stuffed toy. His wife wants to clear these from her garage and at the same time
help charitable organisations raise funds. Some parishes in the diocese have already taken this
up. The arrangement is that individuals place orders (one item $10, two items $15, 3 items $20)
and then we can fulfil the required bulk order. One third of money raised can be kept by your
church and two-thirds sent to Fay. If you want to take advantage of this fund-raising
opportunity contact John or Dawn on 342 7833; John 027 651 2224; Dawn 021 0789 239 for
more information.
