USING VISUALS AND TEXT STRUCTURE TO CREATE A POSTER
HIGHLIGHTING A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
The Lightning Thief and “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”
For this group project, you will work with a partner or a group of no more than
four classmates to create a poster evaluating a literary element difference between
the book, The Lightning Thief, and the movie, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”
(LITERARY ELEMENTS are setting, plot, theme, characters, and resolution.)
Your poster must contain:
 A VISUAL illustrating the difference(s) in the literary element central to
your analysis
 A clear, clever title that draws your audience to your idea.
 A SUMMARY STATEMENT that explains your analysis in a brief, clear
way. In other words, when someone looks at your poster, s/he should
be able to understand the idea by just looking at the title, visual, and
summary statement.
 A short, clear compare/contrast paragraph explaining your idea about
the differences you display in the poster. The paragraph should
include a conclusion about the impact of this difference on the
audience. Use the “Comparison and Contrast Text Structure Frame to
help you write this paragraph.
 A short, clear cause/effect OR problem/solution paragraph explaining
the possible reasons for the moviemaker’s decision to change the
book. The conclusion can include your opinion on whether the change
is an effective one. Use the “Cause and Effect” OR “Problem and
Solution” Text Structure Frame to help you write this paragraph.
On the back of this handout
is a LIST OF POSSIBLE IDEAS for your group/partnership
