appointed by king to act as diplomats to
the Natives.
◦ No colony approved it. Each had its own
culture, way of dealing with the Natives,
and wanted to do its own thing.

No one can settle the new territory
(west of the Appalachians). Anyone who
tries it will be physically brought back.
Easier to control colonists and keep
Indians and colonists from fighting.
Troops stationed to keep colonists in
place.

Pontiac’s Rebellion
After the French and Indian War, the
French threat of invasion is removed.
Which means…
However, Native nations did not sign
the peace treaty.
Most Natives stayed on their land,
British take over trading where the
French left off. But there’s a
problem…

Colonists disregard Proclamation Line of 1763.
Natives sack every British fort in the OH valley leaving only 3 standing: Detroit,
Pitt, and Niagara.
Fighting continues until French officially sign the treaty and word gets back to
Pontiac.
