Melanie B. Bradford is the Executive Director for Alabama Family Trust, a nonprofit special needs trust
serving children and adults with disabilities. Alabama Family Trust was established by the Alabama
legislature, in 1994, to provide a means for disabled individuals to provide for supplemental care needs
while being eligible for appropriate government benefits. Alabama Family Trust administers both First
Party Special Needs Trusts and Third Party Special Needs Trusts for the disabled throughout the United
States.
Melanie B. Bradford also maintains a private law practice. She has focused her law practice on Elder Law
(Estate Planning, Asset Protection, Special Needs Planning, Medicaid, VA Benefits, and Probate) since
2006, with her main office located in Scottsboro, Alabama. In 2014, Ms. Bradford and Mr. John Holliman
formed Bradford & Holliman, LLC, located in Pelham, Alabama. Together, they focus their law practices
on Estate Planning, Asset Protection, Special Needs Planning, Medicaid Planning and Appeals, VA
Planning, Probate, and Business Entities.
Ms. Bradford is admitted to practice before all Alabama courts, the United States District Court for the
Northern District of Alabama, U.S. Tax Court, and all Tennessee courts.
Ms. Bradford earned a B.A. degree in political science and history, magna cum laude, from Athens State
University. She obtained a J.D. degree from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University, cum laude,
where she was also a member of the Cumberland Law Review. She was also appointed as a member of
Curia Honoris.
She is a Caregiver Task Force appointed by the Alabama Senate; a member of the Elder Law Section of the
Alabama State Bar (past president); a member of the planning committee for the annual Alabama Elder
Law Conference; a Board member for the Huntsville Finance & Estate Planning Council, a member of the
planning committee for the Annual National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys conference (2015), the
Alabama State Bar, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; American Bar Association; and the
Tennessee Bar Association.
