JOB DESCRIPTION
Goolarri Media Enterprises (GME) is the trading subsidiary of Broome Aboriginal Media Association Aboriginal
Corporation (BAMA). GME is an Indigenous media organisation providing radio, television, filming, and digital networks
and training services with a commitment to Aboriginal people of the Kimberley. GME also provides event management
services.

3. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Learning Support Officer position involves working closely with students, providing
support and assistance during training, and helping to develop student’s organisational
skills, self-sufficiency and self esteem. The position will also be expected to collate
information for research and evaluation purposes based on student feedback
mechanisms.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK PERFORMED
1. TRAINING SUPPORT ACTIVITIES

Deliver first rate learning support to online and location based students

Assist trainers with the implementation and delivery of training

Attend to basic personal health and welfare needs of students or any other special
requirements depending on the nature of a student’s special needs

Provide cultural support and liaise with training coordinator to solve potential issues
based on balance between educational requirements and cultural needs

Assist with support tasks at training venues

Provide detailed support via online mechanisms and liaise with relevant service
providers dependent on student needs
4. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES

Assist in delivery of student surveys, focus groups and interviews

Complete tasks assigned by project researcher

Ensure accurate reporting of information for reporting
5. ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES

Assist with basic record keeping requirements of students, eg: attendance, medication
charts (if needed)

Maintain confidentiality regarding student requests and advice

Attend staff meetings, participate in performance management arrangements,
undertake training and development activities as appropriate
4. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
ESSENTIAL
Qualifications
1. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
Personal Characteristics
1. Experience working closely with Indigenous people
2. Previous experience working in an educational environment
3. Knowledge of the unique requirements of students and their families in the Kimberley
Region
4. Proven ability to work with people from different backgrounds
5. Driver’s license
Technical Competencies/Knowledge
1. High technical proficiency, including computer skills
2. Ability to write reports
3. Good oral communication and interpersonal skills including ability to:
a. Clarify enquiries/problems and provide information;
b. Relate to students and demonstrate empathy in terms of their enquiries, issues or
problems; and
c. Effectively liaise with both internal and external clients/stakeholders
DESIRABLE
1. Experience in supporting online education
2. Research experience, particularly as research assistant
