Gugumbal Interactive Indigenous Tourism Planning Project Press Release: Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre receives funding for ‘The Gugumbal Interactive Indigenous Tourism Planning Project’. This project is a partnership between TQUAL and the Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Christopher Kirkbright, Yarrawarra’s business manager, is pleased to announce that Yarrawarra has been successful with its recent ‘Gugumbal Interactive Indigenous Tourism Planning Project’ funding application with TQUAL. “This project will undertake the foundation planning for a new museum which will incorporate a collection of artefacts and cultural materials in a Gugumbal shell-shaped building,” says Mr Kirkbright. “TQUAL Grants is an Australian Government funded initiative, and these funds will be used to engage technical consultancies for the museum to prepare architectural drawings, building specifications, quantity surveyor report, and soil and environmental reports”, says Mr Kirkbright. The Gugumbal Interactive Museum & Keeping Place at Yarrawarra will be integral to the initiatives of the Legendary Pacific Coast and Saltwater, Freshwater Cultural Trails. Building on the current success of the Yarrawarra Cultural Centre facilities, it will create a state-of-the-art centre providing a point for domestic and international tourists to access the large range of unique Indigenous artefacts and information that have been collected. Alison Williams, local Aboriginal artist & gallery manager, states that “This project represents a further stage in forming long-term partnerships for the sustainable management of local culture”.
