THE ENGLISH ONLY CLASSROOM - THIS WORKSHOP GIVES STRATEGIES ON HOW TO GIVE A LESSON AND HAVE YOUR
STUDENTS PARTICIPATE ONLY IN ENGLISH . THIS IS GEARED TOWARD BEGINNER LEVEL CLASSES. T EACHERS WILL
LEARN STRATEGIES THAT WILL LOWER THEIR TEACHER TALKING TIME AND INCREASE THE STUDENTS´ SPEAKING TIME .
OBJECTIVES AND LESSON PLANNING - HOW DO YOU WRITE A CLEAR OBJECTIVE THAT SHOWS WHAT YOUR STUDENTS
WILL ACCOMPLISH AT THE END OF YOUR CLASS ? WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF A GOOD EFL LESSON PLAN ? TEACHERS
WILL LEAVE THIS WORKSHOP WITH THE ABILITY TO WRITE A SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE AND A LESSON PLAN THAT WILL CARRY
OUT THIS GOAL .
MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES- THIS WORKSHOP EXPLAINS THE THEORY BY HOWARD GARDNER OF THE DIFFERENT
INTELLIGENCES THAT WE ALL HAVE , HOW THEY AFFECT THE WAY THAT OUR STUDENTS’ LEARN, AND HOW WE CAN
VARY OUR ACTIVITIES TO ENSURE THAT ALL OUR STUDENTS ’ HAVE THE BEST CHANCE TO LEARN.
BEGINNING READING- A DEMONSTRATION LESSON WILL BE GIVEN ON HOW TO TEACH READING TO BEGINNER
LEARNERS OF ENGLISH . TEACHERS WILL DISCUSS THE STRATEGIES AND ACTIVITIES USED AND CREATE THEIR OWN
LESSON PLANS WITH A READING FROM THEIR TEXTS .
HOW TO USE VIDEOS I N THE EFL CLASSROOM - VISUALS ARE SO IMPORTANT FOR CREATING CONTEXT AND QUICK
COMPREHENSION IN ALL LEVELS OF EFL.
THAT IS WHY MOVIES ARE SUCH GREAT TOOLS FOR TEACHING AND
PRACTICING EVERYTHING FROM GRAMMAR TO SPEAKING. I N THIS WORKSHOP WE WILL FOCUS ON USING 3-4
MINUTES SNIPPETS FROM FILMS TO MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO SPEAK . WE WILL DO A NUMBER OF ACTIVITIES THAT CAN
BE USED WITH BEGINNERS AS WELL AS ADVANCED STUDENTS OF ENGLISH . IF YOU DON’T USE MOVIE CLIPS IN YOUR
CLASSES NOW , COME FIND OUT HOW EASY IT IS TO USE THEM TO CREATE A LESSON OR ENGAGING SPEAKING
ACTIVITIES.
JAZZ CHANTS- CREATED BY CAROLYN GRAHAM, THEY ARE A TYPE OF SONG THAT IS CLOSER TO A CHANT OR A RAP .
THEY WERE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THE ESL/EFL CLASSROOM. EACH “CHANT ” HAS A SPECIFIC GRAMMAR
FOCUS THAT THE STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO PRACTICE WHILE “ SINGING ”. STUDENTS USUALLY LOVE THIS.
SPEAKING ACTIVITIES- HERE ARE A BUNCH OF ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE SPEAKING IN THE CLASSROOM THAT
TEACHERS CAN USE MULTIPLE TIMES WITH DIFFERENT GRAMMAR STRUCTURES .
TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE -V ERY USEFUL FOR BEGINNING LEVEL EFL STUDENTS, THE TPR METHOD USES A
KINESTHETIC APPROACH TO TEACHING . TEACHERS WILL LEARN ACTIVITIES FOR BEGINNING LEVEL STUDENTS AND FOR
MORE ADVANCED STUDENTS.
INDUCTIVE LEARNING- TEACHERS LEARN HOW TO PRESENT NEW MATERIAL TO THEIR STUDENTS USING THIS
APPROACH . IT IS A MORE MODERN WAY WHICH FOCUSES ON ELICITING INFORMATION FROM STUDENTS . THIS
APPROACH IS MORE STUDENT - CENTERED WHICH IS MORE INTERESTING FOR THEM AND ENABLES THEM TO LEARN THE
MATERIAL BETTER .
LOWERING TEACHER TALKING TIME- TEACHERS WILL LEARN SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES AND STRATEGIES, SUCH AS
MODELING AND LIMITING ECHOING , TO LOWER THE AMOUNT OF TIME THEY SPEAK IN CLASS. THIS WILL NATURALLY
INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT THE STUDENTS TALK IN EVERY CLASS .
INCREASING STUDENT TALKING TIME – JUST BECAUSE YOU LOWER YOUR TEACHER TALKING TIME DOES NOT
NECESSARILY MEAN THAT YOUR STUDENT TALKING TIME WILL AUTOMATICALLY INCREASE . IN THIS WORKSHOP
TEACHERS WILL LEARN TYPES OF ACTIVITIES THAT INCREASE STUDENT PARTICIPATION, SUCH AS THINK , P AIR , SHARE .
THEY WILL ALSO PRACTICE ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE 100% CLASS PARTICIPATION , SUCH AS MINGLE ACTIVITIES.
USING COMICS TO MOTIVATE EFL STUDENTS TO READ AND WRITE- TEACHERS ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR
MATERIALS TO MOTIVATE THEIR STUDENTS TO READ AND WRITE . COMIC BOOKS HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY USED TO
MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO READ INDEPENDENTLY , ESPECIALLY YOUNG MALE STUDENTS. THERE ARE THE “ OLD SCHOOL ’
COMIC BOOKS AND ALSO A WHOLE NEW WORLD OF CREATING YOUR OWN COMICS ON VARIOUS WEB SITES . THESE
ACTIVITIES CAN BE USED FOR ANY LEVEL OF EFL, FROM BEGINNING LEVEL CLASSES TO THE MOST ADVANCED .
FLASHCARD ACTIVITIES- FLASHCARDS ARE INVALUABLE FOR BEGINNING LEVEL EFL TEACHERS. IN THIS WORKSHOP
YOU WILL LEARN A WIDE ASSORTMENT OF FUN AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN DO WITH JUST ONE SET
OF FLASHCARDS .
EVALUATION- TEACHERS WILL LEARN THE GOOD CHARACTERISTICS THAT MAKE UP A GOOD AND FAIR EXAM . WE WILL

WHICH TEXTBOOK SUITS THE NEEDS OF THEIR LANGUAGE LEARNERS .
DO YOU CCQ?- IN THIS WORKSHOP TEACHERS WILL LEARN WHAT IS A CCQ, THE TYPES OF CCQS AND PRACTICE
USING THEM . WE WILL FOCUS ON THEIR USE AFTER PRESENTING NEW MATERIAL AND AFTER GIVING DIRECTIONS.
THE LATTER IS OFTEN FORGOTTEN BY TEACHERS , BUT IS ESSENTIAL IN AN EFL CLASS.

SECOND LANGUAGE METHODOLOGY - THE COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH – TEACHERS WILL BE RECEIVE A BRIEF
HISTORY OF THE APPROACH AND ITS BASIC TENETS. WE WILL ALSO PRACTICE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ERROR
CORRECTION . TEACHERS WILL BE ABLE TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN CLASSROOM AND REAL LIFE TASKS . IF THERE IS
TIME WE WILL DELVE INTO THE TASK BASED APPROACH .
SECOND LANGUAGE METHODOLOGY - THE AUDIOLINGUAL METHOD – TEACHERS WILL BE RECEIVE A BRIEF HISTORY
OF THE APPROACH AND ITS BASIC TENETS . WE WILL ALSO PRACTICE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ORAL DRILLS .
SCHEMA THEORY AND TEACHING READING - PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF SCHEMA THEORY
AND WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO TAP INTO STUDENTS’ PRIOR KNOWLEDGE . TEACHERS WILL PRACTICE A NUMBER OF
PRE AND POST READING ACTIVITIES . IF THERE IS TIME , WE WILL COVER READER ’S THEATER .
WRITING WORKSHOP SERIES – THIS FOUR DAY SERIES COVERS THE ENTIRE WRITING PROCESS FROM PREWRITING TO
PUBLISHING . TEACHERS ACTUALLY WRITE THEIR OWN PIECE AND ARE TAKEN THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS . WE
FOCUS ON MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO ENCOURAGE SS TO WRITE , EDITING AND REVISING , AND WAYS TO PUBLISH
STUDENTS WRITING . THE WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS 3 OUT OF THE 4 TYPES OF WRITING : NARRATIVE , DESCRIPTIVE AND
EXPOSITORY . I ALSO FAMILIARIZE TEACHERS WITH TIME SAVING IDEAS LIKE PEER EDITING AND RUBRICS
