心得報告:
The focus of IAICS 2009 was not the topics, Hybridity and Intercultural
Communication, which involved the issues that the variety of groups or races
in the world might need to hold a deep breath to put them in the considerations.
This conference also widened the entry of discussion regarding the facilitating
the harmony relationship among human beings around the world.
In the twenty first century, broaden perspectives for viewing the world
is a must simply because each one of use could not get rid of the influence
from the tendency developing done by the global society. The elements of the
influence are definitely sophisticated as a result of the complexity of
socialization among the diversity of people. For instance, various colors
represent the variety of meaning defined by different races of the world. In
this case, misunderstandings could be involved in the process of cross
cultural communication. Therefore, understanding misunderstandings might be
a worth issue to discuss in terms of encountering new cultures.
Base on what observed from this conference held by IAICS, participants
perceived the significant methods and means of acquiring for fostering
effective communication among different races in the world by means of acquiring
more understandings of multicultural societies. Speaking of effective
communications, language using and cultural understanding need to be included.
Not only the linguistic competence need to be equipped but the communicative
skills are also need to be obtained for the purpose of becoming a member of
the global citizen.
The desire to master English has motivated EFL teachers on Asia to
investigate how we can provide authentic English teaching approaches instead
of traditional ones which focus on grammar teaching to enable EFL learners to
speak and use English more effectively and accurately. Moreover, EFL teachers
in Asia are concerned about why EFL learners, especially those Limited English
Proficient(LEP) learners, struggle to learn English. In traditional English
teaching classes in Asia, EFL teachers focus on learning English grammar by
means of remembering rules. A common problem in language education is that it
is more concerned with linguistic rules rather than with the incorporation of
social and cultural knowledge that underlie the practicalities of such language
systems. It is urgent for EFL teachers in Asia to create effective language
learning methods and materials based on the diversity in the cultural background
of the EFL learners in Asia. Through this conference, great deals of
communicative strategies based on various angles to view the world are brought
into the participants’ perspectives. Through the experience of using the
target language, English, and cultivating global perspective, students at
Transworld Institute of Teachnology are expected to be more competitived in
their career after graduation.
