Come explore the Heron Reserve and learn about this diverse ecosystem though observation and activities. ( any season) Species at Risk Beavers Plus Discover the life cycle and special features of beavers and other aquatic mammals. (any season ) This program teaches the ecological concepts of habitat and the web of life in the wetlands community. The focus is on Species at Risk in the Fraser Valley and their habitat needs. ( any season) Pond Prowl Feathered Friends Animals have amazing adaptations for living in the wetlands. Discover the life cycles and special creatures of our pond community . (Fall & Spring) We provide the binoculars for a n engaging look at birds and bird behavior. Your students will have fun on our bird scavenger hunt while learning about the BC birds. ( any season) Bug Hunt Spiders, insects, and multi- legged crawlies, come meet them all in this hands on exploratory program. (Fall & Spring) Fabulous Frogs Where do frogs go in winter? How to they grow? Come learn about their lifecycle and see some fabulous frogs! (March to Juney) Salmon Stories Take a look at the salmon lifecycle through puppets, stories and observation s at our spawning channels. (November only) Hectic Herons Get close-up look at over 300 Great Blue Herons nesting. Learn all about their habitat and life cycle. Try to stump our naturalist with your questions! (Best Heron viewing March , April, May) Pond & Stream Study This informative program with dip netting will give students a real field experience as they explore pond and stream ecology. Three local artists will share their expertise & enthusiasm with your students. Art projects can be linked to a specific outdoor program (ie herons, bugs) or a special interest (ie bats, cougars) . Intro to Wildlife Art Three mini art lessons introduce sketching, painting and cartooning. Wildlife Art: Sketching Students will learn the basics of sketching with pencil and charcoal. Practice drawing animals & birds, fur & feathers. Wildlife Art: Landscapes (intermediate and up) From the background to perspective, students will learn the steps in creating a landscape using acrylic paints on an art canvas. Wildlife Art: Special Projects Choose media and suggest a favorite animal or bird for a special art lesson & project.
