Wildlife Learning Objectives
Students should be able to:

Identify common fish and wildlife species by mounts, skulls, tracks and pelts.
Dichotomous keys will be used for more extensive identification.


Describe specific adaptations of wildlife to their environment.

Discuss the natural history of common species.

Describe food webs, predator/prey relationships and identify examples.

Evaluate habitat suitability for common species.

Be familiar habitat improvements for common species.

Understand the concept of carrying capacity and describe factors that limit or enhance
wildlife populations.

Understand how the public and wildlife managers can help conserve, manage, and
enhance wildlife populations.

Describe the potential impact of the introduction of non-native plant or animal species
on native wildlife populations.

Identify West Virginia’s threatened and endangered species and describe major
factors affecting them and methods used to preserve these species.

Infer reasons for regulations regarding season dates and bag (creel) limits.

Discuss major hunting and fishing laws.
