Grading Rubric for Life School Cedar Hill Music For each Music class, students receive a number grade on a scale of 0-4 with 4 being the ideal score and 0 being the lowest score. Scores are used to determine each student’s grade. There are two (2) main areas that are covered by the daily grading rubric: participation and ability. Each area is clearly described below. Daily Score Participation Ability (4) Student work is beyond expectations. High level of participation. Stays on task and shows enthusiasm. Performs tasks exceptionally well. Shows mastery of musical skills. (3) Student work meets expectations. (2) Student work nearly meets described standards. Good level of participation. Participates without reminders. Shows mastery of musical skills most of the time. Needs some reminders to participate. On task most of the time. Performs most activities at a satisfactory level. Shows an understanding of skills and can mostly perform skills correctly. (1) Student work does not meet expectations. (0)-Student work is unacceptable. Uncooperative at times. Talks when directions are being given. Reminders to stay on task. Insufficient knowledge of rules and activities with no attempt to learn them. Doesn’t follow the rules. Avoids participation. Complains about the task. Shows an understanding of skills, but does not perform skills consistently. Does not have an understanding of skills. Each skill will be added together weekly for a total grade. Below is the grading scale: Points Earned 7-8 5-6 2-4 0-1 Grade 100 85 70 50 *Worksheets and group projects may be given periodically through the year. Grades given will count as the grade for the week. 9 Weeks Conduct Grade Student’s conduct grade will be based on the number of warnings received for the entire 6 weeks. Consequence 1st Warning None 2nd Warning Sit out 10 Minutes 3rd Warning Tally, sit out remainder of class 4th Warning Office Referral Students will begin each class with zero warnings. At the end of the 9 weeks, the amount of warnings will be added up to receive the following conduct grades: E= 0-3 Warnings S= 4-6 Warnings N= 6 and above Please discuss these new policies with your student.
