Police: Chief of Police
Applicants must have strong communication skills, public relations, leadership skills, good moral
character and be able to perform tasks which include planning, coordinating and directing the
activities of the Police Department. Applicants must have exposure in all aspects of Municipal
Law Enforcement with experience and competency in management and direction of police
personnel, policy and procedure development, administration and program implementation.
Applicants must be TCOLE certified at time of application and possess an Advanced Certificate,
preferably a Masters. A minimum of ten (10) years Police experience with five (5) senior level
command and administrative responsibility is required. Applicants must have the ability to pass
a thorough background investigation. Applicants must possess a Texas Class C Driver’s License

Police: Peace Officer
Applicants must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Driver’s License
without record of suspension or revocation in any state; ability to meet Department’s physical
standards. Formal application, education and experience; successful completion of written
testing; background investigation; follow-up interview; offer of employment; psychological
examination; drug screening. Position works on assigned shifts using own judgment in deciding
course of action being expected to handle difficult and emergency situations while patrolling
the city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas. The City of Smithville is an Equal

Police: Police Dispatcher
Applicants must have experience in typing, computers and other office equipment;
demonstrations of ability to work without direct supervision. Working knowledge of electronic
data processing; working knowledge of modern officer practices and procedures. Ability to
effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in
writing; ability to handle stressful situations and confidential information. Applicants must
have a High School Diploma or GED and have a valid Texas Driver’s License. The City of
