PEOPLE Program Summer Positions 2014 Middle School Summer Program Dates: 3-week Program June 16th- July 3rd 2014 5-week Program June 16th – July 19th 2014 High School Summer Program Dates: 3-Week Program: Sunday, June 22nd – Saturday, July 12th 2014 6-Week Program: Sunday, June 22nd – Friday August 1 2014 * Special Events Coordinator – Middle School (1) – The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the logistics for all middle school summer program in conjunction with the Program Coordinators and other staff. Responsibilities include: coordinating all event logistics, assignments and announcements, student speaker recruitment, securing equipment and supplies, organizing field trips for students, graduations and any weekend activities and events. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned. The work schedule includes afternoons and some weekend hours. Anticipated Employment Dates: June 1st – July 19 2014. (full time hours) Head Counselor (1) – The Head Counselor (1 Female) is responsible for coordinating the residential aspects for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders during the 3-week & 6-week summer programs in conjunction with the Program Coordinators and other staff. Responsibilities include: manage 70+ staff members, oversee daily operations within the dormitory, enforce rules and regulations, hire and train staff. st th This position requires organization, dedication, time management, multitasking, and great interpersonal communication skills. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned. The work schedule includes morning, afternoon, evening hours, overnight stays, and weekends. This becomes a mandatory live-in position on June 21st 2014-August 2nd 2014. Employment Dates: March 1st – August 8th 2014. Summer Prep: March 1st – May 31st 2014 approx. 10 hours a week Full Time hours- June 1st – August 2nd 2014 Room and Board and Meals Included (Room and Board, including meals June 16th- Aug 2nd 2014) * Peace Room (2) – Peace room employees will provide support and be responsible for facilitating educational workshops and discussions, provide conflict-resolution services, assist in building interpersonal relationships with students and staff. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned. Work schedule includes evening hours and some weekends. Counseling Psychology and other counseling related majors strongly encouraged to apply. Peace room staff will consist of two 3-week and two 6-week employees. Employment Dates: 3-week Staff June 15th – July 12th 2014. (25 hours a week) 6-Week Staff June 8th – August 1 2014. (25 hours a week) Employee will receive a stipend for entire project * Discipline and Behavior Specialist (1) - The primary role of the Discipline and Behavior Specialist within the PEOPLE Summer Program setting is to interact with students and parents relative to attendance, tardiness, and st behavior within the structure of the summer program. Responsibilities include: general welfare and discipline of PEOPLE students, getting to know the students and maintaining an atmosphere that will encourage students to follow PEOPLE rules and regulations, follow-up on student behavioral issues and provide follow-up and recommendations. Complete, record, distribute and log all student attendance and behavioral issues throughout the summer. Meet with students and contact parents, as necessary, in timely manner; attend daily meetings with Office & Evening Leads, Program Coordinators and Residential Supervisors to provide daily updates. All other duties assigned. Individual should have experience in dealing with student control and behavior issues, experience working with low-income students as well as multicultural students and counseling or Higher Education experience. Counseling Psychology and other counseling related majors strongly encouraged to apply. Employment Dates: June 9th – August 1st 2014 (40hrs/week) Employee will receive a stipend for entire project Office Lead ** (3) – Office Leads are responsible for serving as a contact for staff with any office and data needs and requirements, monitoring and updating student attendance, van use, equipment sign-out, student and parent check-in and check-out, field parent and staff inquiries, assist with activity and mini trip information, and working in conjunction with other staff and Program Coordinators. Other duties/responsibilities as assigned. The work schedule varies depending on shifts. Attention to detail, organized, dependable, excellent public relations and customer service skills a plus. Employment Dates: June 1st – August 2 , 2014. Summer hourly position ($17.33 per hour) 40 hours per week. nd Qualifications Candidates must have experience working with middle or high school students from diverse backgrounds and the ability to create positive linkages between students and staff. Ideal candidates will have a history of positive youth and community relations, excellent written and verbal communication skills, very detailed and organized, creative, and passionate about expanding the educational and life opportunities of minority, first generation and low-income youth. * Positions require a bachelor’s degree Employment will require a criminal background check and I-9 completion. An offer of employment is conditional pending the results of a criminal background check. If the results are unacceptable, the offer will be withdrawn or, if you have started employment, your employment will be terminated. Some positions require a valid driver’s license and must be authorized by the University to drive state vehicles. The positions this requirement pertains to are denoted with a double asterisk **. Must be available for the entire program including staff trainings, parent/student orientations, and special events.
