The caste system: p. 145 in packet and handout #5 (Reading from the Rig Veda in notebook.) You should be able to identify this origin/creation story of the caste system. You should also know the Hindu names and duties of each caste. You must also know the Dalit, as well. You should also know some basic characteristics of the caste system and be able to compare and contrast it with the U.S. class system. Documents 6 and 7 in the notebook do a great job explaining this in visual form. 4. The Hindu gods: p. 147 in packets and document 9 in your notebook. You should know the four main gods, be able to identify their responsibilities, and explain how these responsibilities connect to the Hindu understanding of the universe. 5. Dharma: p. 148 in packet. Also, document 9 in your notebook. 6. Karma: p. 149 in packet. 7. Samsara: p. 150 in your packet and document 10 in your notebook. 8. Moksha: p. 150 in packet gives a nice definition, but does not use the actual term. Document 10 in your notebooks. 9. Atman: p. 146 in packet and document 10 in your notebook. 10. You should be able to explain the connection between terms 5 through 9. 11. There will also be two (2) excerpts from the underlined passages from our Bhagavad Gita reading where you will determine what Hindu teaching(s) the excerpt best represents and then give evidence for your choice.
