To provide IT support to staff and students at NCW, liaising with the Head of ICT as appropriate. To Line Manage the Senior IT Technician. AS116: JD & PS: IT Network Manager KEY ACTIVITIES 1. Network Management a. To ensure the smooth running and maintenance of the College Network and infrastructure. b. To support all IT equipment and peripherals in the College, including desktops, laptops, specialist equipment, printers, embossers and audio visual equipment. c. To control access to and secure hardware, systems, software and data in accordance with legislation and College protocols. d. To ensure all systems are backed up in accordance with College protocols. 2. IT support a. To oversee and co-ordinate the IT support for students and staff in liaison with Head of ICT. b. To provide training and technical support to members of staff and students in the use of relevant equipment and software as appropriate. c. To develop and oversee the maintenance of a call logging and tracking system for dealing with IT related issues. d. To oversee and troubleshoot IT related problems; set up, maintain and repair hardware, software, user accounts and infrastructure. e. To set up relevant equipment for meetings and exams as appropriate. 3. To be responsible for the maintenance of an asset register of all IT and specialist equipment as appropriate. 4. To support the Data Manager with the development, maintenance and roll out of SIMS to staff. 5. To Line Manage the Senior IT Technician. To undertake performance management reviews as appropriate. 6. To attend the IT Working Group meetings and work collaboratively with members of this group to develop and manage the ongoing strategic development of the College’s IT provision. 7. To provide technical specifications as required and liaise with Assistant Principal: Business and Finance as appropriate to procure services and supplies. To manage budgets as appropriate and adhere to best value principles. 8. To assist in the rolling programme of PAT Testing, in relation to IT equipment, liaising with Premises Team as appropriate. To keep abreast of future IT developments by attending exhibitions, seminars, workshops and product launches and by networking with colleagues in similar organisations. 10. AS116: JD & PS: IT Network Manager PERSON SPECIFICATION Post : IT NETWORK MANAGER (AS116/0913) Scale/Grade : SO1 QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING: It is essential that the post holder has: A degree in a relevant subject area or equivalent professional qualification and/or appropriate experience Evidence of on-going professional development It is desirable that the post holder has: EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE: It is essential that the post holder has: Minimum of two years in a technical support role, including network support and administration, network installations and complex network troubleshooting Experience of using systems including Windows XP/7, Windows 2008 server and Active Directory Knowledge of a variety of network topologies and configurations Experience of working in a customer support environment Excellent IT skills, with the ability to adapt software to suit the College’s requirements It is desirable that the post holder has: Experience of working in a school/college environment Experience of working with students with a visual impairment Knowledge/experience of network system design and development Knowledge of SQL server 2005 or above Knowledge and experience of relevant legislation Experience of line managing staff SKILLS AND ABILITIES: It is essential that the post holder has: High level organisation skills Effective time management skills Good communication skills Customer focussed Ability to work effectively as part of a team AS116: JD & PS: IT Network Manager
