Mrs. Miller’s Easter Bread Dough Ingredients 2 ½ cups flour ¼ cup sugar 1 Tbsp instant yeast 1 tsp salt ¾ cup milk ¼ cup butter 1 egg ½ tsp orange and lemon extract or zest from each fruit Directions 1. Combine flour, yeast and sugar in a large mixing bowl. 2. Measure milk in a small liquid measuring cup, add butter and microwave for one minute. Stir until butter is melted completely into the milk. 3. Once the milk is cooled to WARM , to the point where you can wrap your hands around the glass cup and it is nice and warm. Then add the milk to the flour mixture and stir to combine. 4. Once it is just mixed, add egg, orange extract and lemon extract and mix well. 5. Add just enough flour to make a nice, soft dough then knead with hands on the counter until it is not sticking to fingers. DO NOT ADD TOO MUCH FLOUR TO MAKE IT TOO DRY. 5. Once Dough is smooth and satiny, place in sprayed bowl, cover with plastic wrap or into a large ziplock back and put in fridge overnight or rise on counter for an hour in a warm spot. 6. Preheat the oven to 350 dregrees F. 7. Punch down dough until there is no air left. 8. Break dough into three even pieces, roll each piece into ropes about 12 inches long. 9. Join all three on one end and braid the three stands together, joining at the other end. 10. Place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. 11. Remove from oven and cool slightly before pouring icing over top. Icing Ingredients ¼ cup powdered sugar 2 tsp. ½ tsp. milk vanilla or citrus extract
