Chemistry 1/Honors is intended for the student who intends to enter a four-year college and may pursue a career in science or intends to enroll in Chemistry/AP later in high school. The content covered in this course includes a rigorous study of: atomic theory, mass-mole relationships, stoichiometry, solutions, gas laws, oxidation-reduction, calorimetry, periodicity, molecular structure and polarity, colligative properties, reaction rates, LeChatelier’s principle and acid/base.
Goals and Objectives : This course is designed to
Give students a strong background in chemistry to help them experience success in a college chemistry course and/or AP Chemistry.
Develop the study habits necessary in a post-secondary education.
Develop problem solving skills needed in both an educational setting and in life.
Develop a curiosity about phenomena students observe and a desire to know the explanation.
Expectations: Students are expected to
Cooperate with the teacher and fellow students
Follow school and classroom rules
Complete all class work and homework
Turn assignments in on time
Have materials needed for class each day.
Follow the tardy and absence policy in the Students’ Rights and Responsibilities
Handbook.
Actively Participate (when in class, pay attention, work on assignment, etc.)

These percents are for calculating the student’s 9 weeks grade. Each 9 weeks grade counts 40% of their finals average and their final Exam counts 20%.
*Projects will be placed in different categories depending on the type of project, difficulty, etc. The students will be informed when the project is assigned whether it will count as a test grade, lab grade, etc.
