EVANS COURSE TITLE: HONORS CHEMISTRY, GENERAL CHEMISTRY COURSE OBJECTIVE: - To develop critical and creative thinking skills - To exhibit responsibility in both individual and group learning situations - To develop an understanding of the different concepts and areas of chemistry COURSE OUTLINE: Units of instruction include: - Atomic and Molecular Structure - Chemical Bonds - Conservation of Matter and Stoichiometry - Gases and Their Properties - Acids and Bases - Solutions - Chemical Thermodynamics - Reaction Rates - Chemical Equilibrium - Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry - Nuclear Processes - Honors Chemistry will be expected to be proficient in all standards including all of the asterisks standard. - General Chemistry will be expected to be proficient in all standards including some of the asterisks standards. EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS: Material to be brought to class every day include the textbook, paper, calculator and pen or pencil. GRADING: Letter grades will be determined through the use of a point system. All tests and assignments will be given a point value. Work not turned in or tests not made up will receive zero points. Letter grades will be based on the following scale: A B C D F 90-100% 80-89% 70-79% 60-69% 0-59% Homework: There will be assigned problems from each Chapter (each problem= 1 point) Labs: There will be approximately one lab per Chapter. The number of points varies from 20 to 40. Tests: There will be one test per Chapter (each question= 3 points) MAKE UP: It is the students’ responsibility for completing all make-up works, including tests, in a maximum of days equal to the number of days absent plus one.
