CBA Green Team Minutes Tuesday, January 17, 2012 3:00pm, Mammel Hall Suite 200 Attendees: Jonna Holland, Michelle Janssen, Jean Waters, Brice Miller, Damian Klosowski, Chad Wetzel, Chris Decker, Amy Rodie, Gisele Olney, Carol Rose, Edward Johnson, David Nielsen Items of Old Business: Recycling Pledge Project: Green Team members were invited to attend Pam Peterson’s Sales class. Students will debrief the assignment ( Feb 29th at 6:15 pm MKT 3100). 60 Seconds to Green: Discussion on ways of distribution and practical implementation of the project: Group believes this is a good initiative and should be continued to increase awareness of “green topics” Concern about email overload and obtaining permission for already existing student lists. Group determined a few potential ways to share monthly tips and topics: o Screensavers ( information will be send to David) o To reach the entire student body we can use e-notes o Potentially collaborate with faculty to post short and easily extracted information to Blackboard The following topics will be a part of our upcoming schedule: February – reduce paper usage – print less, recycle (Jean and Michelle) March – Spring Driving- tire pressure (Jean and Brice) April – Earth Day – rain gardens at MH, surface water (Amy) May – Clean Air Month – Actions to reduce ozone August – Recycling 101 – for Mammel Hall September – Pooling our resources – car pooling; shuttle October - Tailgating (reduce food waste) November –America Recycles Day (recycling 201) December – Gift ideas (non-consumables) CBA Sustainability Policy: Jean is working on a white paper for University of Nebraska system; UNO, CBA sustainability policy; Jonna is willing to review and comment Paper will be presented to the Green Team and Green UNO We would like to include environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainability. The policy should address student education Green UNO: Plan to advance the group as a Chancellor’s University Committee UNO will gather information in preparation for renewing its STARS https://stars.aashe.org/ participation – a sustainability measurement program for universities Reminder that UNO is a member of AASHE, which has a good resource library at http://www.aashe.org/. Anyone who has a campus email address can access all areas of the web site. Center for Urban Sustainability draft proposal is almost complete. The vision is an academic research center housed at PKI with all UNO colleges and UNL Engineering participating. Plan to update Purchasing section of the web site, http://www.unomaha.edu/green/ G-Basis: Last meeting Feb 17th, prepared plans for new event taking place on March 29th: o Tire Inflation Event, a platform for the group to gain recognition, provide education to participants and acquire funds via fundraising Subcommittee reports: Reduce usage of the handicap assist doors o Michelle and Amy Rodie started reviewing tapes. Based on two days of footage, the initial observation suggests the doors are used. The tapes will be reviewed for a better sample data. Items of New Business: Mammel Hall Dashboard: Kiewit Building Group has provided CBA with an energy dashboard. We are waiting for energy modeling information from Farris Engineering to complete the usefulness of the dashboard. Vision is to have this dashboard available in the lobby and on our web sites WasteWise: CBA will become a partner in the WasteWise program sponsored by the U.S. EPA Waste Wise helps organizations achieve cost savings, improve efficiency, and reduce their climate footprint through solid waste reduction. Primary Benefits o Re-TRAC software and database tool to track wastes and costs o Public Recognition o Network with other partners for strategies o Our responsibilities will include: o Gathering and submit data on our disposal of waste and recycling plus purchase of recycled products o Look for opportunities to purchase more environmentally preferable products, reduce waste, and increase recycling Graphic Identifier: Subcommittee will consist of: Jonna, Jean, Giselle, Amy, Carol Jonna discussed the path for the development process: 1. What we want logo to represent 2. Characteristics of symbols 3. What will be the logo used for 4. “personality traits” of CBA and green initiative the logo should represent 5. Collect symbols 6. Provide all information to Ellen for graphic dev. 7.
