CBA Green Team Meeting Tuesday, August 9 3:00pm, Mammel Hall Suite 200 3:00 pm: Old Business: 1. Questions for Welcome Week – turn these in to Jenna a. Thanks to those who have turned them in already b. All topics and questions are due on Thursday, August 11 2. CBA Sustainability Policy – update from Rick a. Looking to start developing a policy by next meeting based on environmental aspects and impacts entries b. Idea was raised about giving a sustainability tour/providing a sustainability map c. We need to more thoroughly communicate to students and staff what is being done to green then scene at Mammel Hall d. Just to clarify- the plants in front of Mammel Hall are being re-planted 3. E-books Thoughts and Data – update from Jenna a. Presentation of eBooks and the cost advantage to using ebooks (eReader + 10 text books) rather than textbooks (used texts as priced by the UNO bookstore) over the course of two years as a UNO undergraduate or graduate student (please see slides) b. Bill Swanson recently met with those using XanEdu, a provider for eresources i. There is an expiration for ebooks (3 years) c. Idea was raised that professors should make a concerted effort to promote ebooks to students and provide resources about how to go about obtaining an ebook for that particular subject 4. Durable Dishes – update from Jenna and Jean a. Price for one kit with one dozen plates, cups, coffee mugs, and silverware is approximately $111. b. We have determined that they will most likely not be used i. EMBA and Dean’s office already have also durables ii. Dean Pol brought of issue of using more environmentally friendly disposables (i.e., usage of paper/recycles materials, banning Styrofoam usage entirely from Mammel Hall) 5. CBA Green Team Website a. David Nielsen is out of town, but we are planning to work with him to start a site that contains useful information for those interested in the activity of the green team, and also will contain access to meeting minutes, etc. b. Ellen is developing a logo for the CBA Green Team c. We having started using the social/shared bookmarking website “Delicious” (www.delicious.com) to place bookmarks on websites that we feel pertain to the goals of the green team using the tag “CBAgreenteam” (i.e. green purchasing, other sustainability policies, student “green” challenges, etc). We encourage you to being bookmarking site using this tag. 3:15: New Business: Determine CBA Environmental aspects and impacts - Attached is the complied lists of all of your recommended environmental aspects and impacts - Goal: use these as a basis for developing a sustainability policy. 1. What are our environmental aspects? (What activities, products, and/or services we do at CBA have an environmental impact?) 2. What is the environmental impact from these aspects? 3. Which of these is most significant? (what is regulated? What do other groups identify as important?) 4. What data do we need to show changes? 5. How/who will coordinate this effort and to whom does it apply? 6. How will we ensure success? 7.
