CLASS INFORMATION
Course Description: This course provides the opportunity for the learner to develop the knowledge
skills process and understanding of creating computer programs using the C# programming language
Credits: 3
Course Format: Face-to-Face
Class Schedule: Monday nights from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Location: Truax Campus – Room 362
Pre-requisites: None
Textbook: Beginning C# 2008 (APress – ISBN: 978-1-4302-1033-7)

COURSE COMPETENCIES: You have the opportunity to learn the following skills in this course:
1. Create a functional C# program which will accomplish specific tasks
2. Justify design decisions made in the creation of the functional C# program

RESPONSIBILITIES AND POLICIES:
Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to be familiar with Madison College policies and

Academic Integrity is an expectation in all Madison College classes. Plagiarism, cheating and collusion are
prohibited at Madison College. Plagiarism is defined as passing of another person’s work as your own.

Students who fail to observe these standards are subject to disciplinary action. Madison College has a

Withdrawal Policy: If a situation arises that prevents the successful completion of this course, please
note that it is each student's responsibility to formally withdraw from this course.
Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for benefiting from the course. If you cannot attend a class, it is
your responsibility to obtain the material missed as lectures will not be repeated to individual students. Due
dates for any labs, assignments, exercises, projects, etc. will not be adjusted due to a student’s absence. All
materials handed out in class are available out in Blackboard. If you have any questions in regards to this
policy, you must contact the instructor in writing.
Submitting Work: All non-programatic work must be submitted as directed in Microsoft Word format,
either as a .doc or .rtf file. Please name your file in the following way, with the assignment name, your
last name, and the course name. For example, Research Paper 1_Smith_Accounting 101. Programatic
work must be a compress (ZIP) file of your entire solution directory. The ZIP file should be named
according to the specifications outlined above.
Student e-Mail: Madison College offers a student e-mail account for all students. You are responsible
for monitoring your student e-mail account. Student e-mail can be accessed at:

Technical Assistance: Student Computer Help Desk is located in the Truax Campus Library Room 230.
Student lab assistants are available in person, and by phone, (608) 243-4444; toll-free at (866) 277-4445;

students. These services are available Monday - Thursday: 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., Friday: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30
p.m., and Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. In addition, students can call an after hours help desk until
10pm most days, by calling (608) 246-6666.

Computer difficulties are not a long-term excuse for non-participation. If you experience problems

running. However, despite our best efforts, our virtual classroom may go down unexpectedly. If

1. Other textbooks
Reading about any topic as presented by different authors is always one good technique for
gaining additional insight. Besides the course textbook, a number of books about computer
concepts have of course been published. Some of these may be obtained from the MATC
IRC. Many bookstores in Madison carry texts on a wide variety of information technology
topics.
2. Instructor
Your instructor is available to discuss matters related to data processing and your progress
in this course. Most questions relating to the four main course projects should be asked in
class or in the discussion boards within Blackboard for this course, so that all students
receive identical information about these projects. Assistance is available during office
hours. In addition to the posted office hours, office appointments may be set up in advance
for other times if some unusual circumstance precludes your use of the posted times.
In general, information technology is a challenging occupation. As an information technology student, it
is unavoidable that you will at times feel under pressure. You may, at times, become tense and perhaps a
little angry--with grades, assignments, the computer, instructors, other students, and yourself. The

ability to persevere through adverse circumstances--fair or unfair--is an important ingredient to success.
However, if you feel the frustration/anger is the result of some problem over which your instructor has
some influence, see your instructor. Bring evidence of the problem. Bring suggested resolutions of the
problem. And remember that in large institutions, there are rules and regulations, and not all problems
can be completely resolved by your instructor.

The course grade is based on projects, exams, reading/topic quizzes, and attendance/participation with

course averages 600 points per semester.
