Dos Mundos is an exciting text focusing on actividades de comunicación y lecturas (communication
activities and readings); Vocabulario (Vocabulary introduced in the communicative activities); gramática y
ejercicios (grammar explanations and verification exercises). There is a strong focus on culture (Ventanas
culturales and Ventanas al pasado), literature (Lecturas, Enlace literario y Notas culturales), and writing. This
course, using comprehensible input, will offer an opportunity to use the chapter themes and new vocabulary to
express yourself freely in speaking and in writing, give you an insight into Latino culture, and let you hear
native speakers from various Latino countries.
Additional support: Pimsleur’s Spanish Quick & Simple (CD): This is an auditory program that will “kickstart” your ability to hold simple conversations in Spanish. It does include some different vocabulary and
grammar from that of the text, giving you an opportunity to augment your bilingual ability.

NEEDED MATERIALS: Students will need a notebook (only for Spanish which can be provided if
needed); it is also strongly recommended that students obtain a good Spanish-English/English-Spanish
dictionary.
Spanish 1 – 2015—2016 -- Room 6
First Semester:
 8/19/15 – 10/19/15 (Chapter Test during the week of 10/12/15)
Paso A – La clase y los estudiantes; Metas (goals) – In Paso A you will learn to understand a good
deal of spoken Spanish and get to know your classmates. The listening skills you develop during these
first days of class will enhance your ability to understand Spanish and will also make learning to speak
Spanish easier.
 10/19/15 – 12/18/15 (Chapter Test during the week of 12/11/15)
Paso B – Las descripciones; Metas (goals) – In Paso B you will continue to develop your listening and
speaking abilities in Spanish. You will learn more vocabulary with which to describe your immediate
environment. You will also get to know your classmates better as you converse with them.
Second Semester:
 1/05/16 – 2/12/16 (Chapter Test during the week of 2/15/16)
Paso C – Mi familia y mis amigos; Metas (goals) – In Paso C you will discuss your family, things you
own, and people’s ages. You will also talk about languages and nationalities.
 2/22/16 – 3/20/16 (Chapter Test during the week of 4/4/16)
Capítulo 1 – Los datos personales y las actividades; Metas (goals) – in Capítulo 1 you will learn to
tell time and give personal information: your address, your phone number, and your birthday. You and
your classmates will talk about sports and other leisure-time activities you enjoy.
 4/11/16 – 5/27/16 (Chapter Test during the week of 5/31/16)
Capítulo 2 – Mis planes y preferencias; Metas (goals) – In Capítulo 2 you will discuss your plans for
the future and your preferences. You will also talk about your classes and the weather.
Grading: An important part of your grade is participation. Opportunities for extra credit will be available
daily. Grades are weighted as follows:
