Civics (9)

Mr. Loe

Course Description :

Civics is designed to provide students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in Civics. The demands upon the student should equip them to deal with intermediate understanding of American

Government and civic duties/responsibilities that go along with it. Students will learn to assess historical materials, their relevance to a given problem, their reliability, and their importance to the evidence presented. In addition, students will be required to analyze and interpret primary sources, including documentary material, maps, statistical tables, pictorial, and graphic evidence of historical events.

Many different assignments and activities will take place during class. If it is not finished in class it will be homework.

The amount of homework will change from week to week. It is expected to be turned in at the beginning of the hour on the due date.

Daily Question

This will be done at the beginning of each class hour and be turned in periodically.

Tests

Tests will be given every 1-2 chapters. They will consist of multiple choice, true and false, fill in the blank, short answer and essay.

Projects

There will be 1 or 2 major projects throughout the year. This may include a group project, research paper, etc. There will also be several smaller projects through out the year.

Extra Credit

There will be a small amount of extra credit offered at the end of the quarters/semesters.

Do not rely on this as it will not help you that much. Do not ask for individual extra credit as I will not offer extra credit to only one student.

Absences:

1.

For any excused absence, the student must contact Mr. Loe to find out any work they have missed.

2.

For any LARGE assignment it must be turned in the day it is due. (Even if the absence is excused…find a way to get it to me!)

3.

If a student has an excused absence on the day of a test , they have as many days as they missed to make up the test. For example, if a student is excused from two days of class, the student has two days to make up that test. After the two days expire, the student will receive a zero on that test.

4.

Unexcused absences will result in a 0 on any homework assignment for that day.

Late Homework Policy:

1. NO homework will be accepted late (excluding excused absences).

Tardy Policy:

1. If a student is not in the classroom when the bell rings, they are tardy.

Classroom Rules:

1.

Observe all school rules.

2.

Be respectful of yourself and others. For example, if the teacher is talking, you should be giving them your full attention.

3.

Golden Rule – Treat others how you want to be treated

Consequences:

I have read and understand the above information. Please tear off the bottom half of this sheet and return it to Mr. Loe no later than Friday, September 6 th .
