Prior to joining ALC Education & Consulting, setting up my own Instructional Design Company and acting as a freelance trainer with a number of Accredited Training Organizations I was a team member at the DET Program Office of the NSW Department of Education, where I established and managed the PRINCE2 training program. This entailed developing all course materials and course management processes, procedures and organisation, establishing DET as a PRINCE2 Accredited Training Organisation (ATO) and providing PRINCE2 training to the department’s internal staff. I managed this initiative as a project in which we established, developed and managed the training programme; I also acted as the Lead PRINCE2 Trainer and delivered PRINCE2 Overview, Foundation and Practitioner training courses to more than 500 DET staff. All this was accomplished while also contributing to the establishment of the DET Program Office, acting as project management, program management and benefits realisation management consultant for a number of projects and programs across the Department, acting as project manager for the implementation of the departmental project management system (CA Clarity) and establishing a project assurance framework. Prior to this I also acted as IT Governance Manager for the NSW Attorney General’s Department, where I established a system of IT Policies and Procedures, developed and implemented the department’s project management framework and acted as Programme Manager for a programme to implement IT Service Support based on the ITIL guidance. January 2010 – Present. ALC Education and Consulting Pty Ltd Sydney Australia Joined ALC as Lead PRINCE2 Trainer and Principal Trainer in order to focus my activities on the design, development and delivery of training and consulting services. This entails travelling to a number of locations across Australia, NZ and Asia. April 2007 – December 2009. NSW Department of Education and Training Sydney Joined the DET Program Office as Lead PRINCE2 Trainer in order to establish the Department’s PRINCE2 Training Programme. In May 2009 I transferred to the IT Directorate of NSW DET, in the role of PMO Consultant. Between then and December 2009 I defined and planned a programme to establish a PMO for the IT Directorate, based on the P3O Architecture, and also acted as coach and in the project assurance role for the first project to be initiated within this programme. LucidIT Sydney Took a permanent position as Senior Consultant and Trainer with LucidIT, where I delivered PRINCE2 and ITIL training courses throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia, but also participated in consulting engagements for the implementation of IT Service Management best practice processes based on ITIL and project management processes based on PRINCE2. These engagements included tasks such as business process design, training needs analysis, training program development and delivery, and managing organizational change. During this time I achieved above average performance as PRINCE2 Trainer, both in terms of exam results and of participant feed-back rating. I was the first PRINCE2 Trainer to accomplish having Papua New Guinea nationals obtain the PRINCE2 Practitioner certificate. May 2005 – July 2006. Northshore Competencies Sydney I established Northshore Competencies in order to enter into a contracting relationship with a number of consulting and Accredited Training Organisations, including LucidIT and Codarra.. I delivered a number of ITIL and PRINCE2 training courses as well as consulting assignments to develop and implement project management methodologies based on PRINCE2, and IT Service Management capabilities based on ITIL. These courses have been delivered in various locations in Australia and SE Asia. September 2003 – April 2005. NSW Attorney General’s Department. Sydney IT Governance Management (Contractor) I was a member of the IT Strategy & Planning team at the NSW Attorney General’s Department. My main responsibilities were to develop and maintain a system of policies and procedures, act as Program Manager for the ITIL Implementation Program and design a project management methodology based on PRINCE2. As part of this assignment I have 1. Designed and implemented a Project Management Framework, in the form of a Lotus Domino web site and a backup html web site. This includes process models, documentation templates, definitions of roles and responsibilities and a set of tools, techniques and guidelines. 2. Developed and delivered a series of training sessions on topics such as an overview of project management, project stakeholder management, project risk management, benefits realization, planning iterative software development projects, effective communication for project managers and the interaction between the Project Management process and the ITIL processes. I have complemented these training courses with coaching and mentoring services. 3. Established the program management framework for the ITIL implementation program, acted as the liaison between the Department and the ITIL Consulting Organisation that managed and acted as consultant on the process implementation projects. Reviewed the focus, scope and direction of the ITIL Program and provided recommendations related to realigning the program to the effective needs of the business. 4. Participated in the design workshops and reviews of the ITIL incident management, problem management, change management and release management processes. July 2001 – July 2003 Oak Management Services Ltd. Bristol – UK and Oak Management Services (Australasia) Pty Ltd Sydney Senior Consultant (UK) and Managing Director (Australasia) I joined Oak in the UK in order to broaden my experience and spend some time in my family’s country of origin. While in the UK my main commitment was to establish Oak as a leader in the field of Benefits Realisation Management. This included developing the Benefits Realisation Management Environment methodology (BRME) and implementing it for two clients. I also facilitated benefits modelling workshops and trained Client staff and Oak staff. A discussion paper on benefits realisation management is available on request. I carried out the roles of Project Manager and Business Analyst on a project to create a computer catalogue of the property deeds of The National Trust, the UK’s largest private landowner. I led an initiative of assessing the use of the PRINCE2 methodology within the National Trust, identifying issues and obstacles to an effective use of the methodology within the organisation and providing a set of recommendations aimed at addressing the issues identified. I performed a study designing how to integrate PRINCE2 and the Rational Unified Process, and produced a paper entitled “Implementing Rational Unified Process Within A PRINCE2 Environment”, which won the award of best presentation at the Rational User Group conference in London in October 2001. This paper has been published by Oak Management Services, and is available on request. Upon returning to Australia in April 2003, I registered Oak Management Services (Australasia) as a subsidiary of the UK company, and attempted to create similar consulting business on the Australian market. However the task turned out to be too difficult for a single person without a pre-existing pipeline of potential clients, and therefore Oak and I parted company amicably in July 2003. April 2000 – June 2001 Informix Software - Sydney Senior Consultant and Project Manager Heinz Watties Australasia – I managed a project for the design and implementation of a Financial Planning Environment. This included an Intranet based application for managing and monitoring Cost Centre Forecasts. I completed the assignment at the end of October 2000, when the system was released into production. Qantas Freight Business Systems - I was engaged to manage the Taurus Project, a Data Warehouse project being conducted jointly by Qantas Freight and Informix Software. The project was successfully delivered, on time and budget. During my time with DMR, my main assignment was Programme Director helping a travel company, Showgroup, embark on a major change programme. This entailed not only the implementation of a new travel system, but also a redesign of the organisation and business processes. As Practice Leader I facilitated the development of an ITIL competency within DMR, and oversaw the implementation of internal policies and procedures. I also carried out a number of short consulting assignments at the Public Trustee’s Office, Macquarie Bank, Energy Australia and MediBank Private. Mar 1998 – Dec 1998 Perpetual Trustees Australia Ltd Year 2000 Project Manager I was responsible for establishing the Year 2000 compliance project, reporting to the Group Executive of Information Technology, Richard Boyer. This included initiating and defining the project, recruiting the project team, establishing the project methodology and procedures. Apr 1996 – Feb 1998 Amp Retail Financial Services Sydney CSC Outsource Contract Restructure (Sept 1997 to Mar 1998) I acted as lead technical analyst within the team that re-negotiated the contract for outsourcing Information Technology Services to CSC. During the execution of this project, I was responsible for: Ensuring that the services defined in the statement of work were aligned with the actual needs of the business; Defining service levels and methods for measuring them; Devising, negotiating and implementing a new model for pricing network services; Providing technical leadership during due diligence and implementation. I also led the contract implementation project, and established the procedures and workflow for ongoing management of the contract. Sep 1994 – Mar 1996 Andersen Consulting - Sydney Senior Manager, Technology Practice I was responsible for providing technical and technological competence on a number of engagements, including: AMP Society - BPR Project, Sydney; Reorganised performance testing and performance management team for the Customer Service Workbench, managed performance through subsequent releases, integrating with development teams and with large scale data centre operations. Westpac Banking Corporation; The project consisted of implementing a new ATM system based on Tandem’s Base 24 ATM application, and upgrading all ATMs to a new communication protocol. I managed the sub-project related to the cutover of Westpac’s 865 ATMs throughout Australia to the new system. Dec 1988 – Aug 1994 Artificial Intelligence Software Spa Milano - Italy Technical Director and Manager of Applications Division I was responsible for the technical strategy of the company and for all organisational and technical aspects of the Applications Division. Leader of Artificial Intelligence Consulting Practice I started Andersen Consulting’s AI practice in Italy, by setting up a team of 8 Consultants and successfully winning and carrying out the following engagements: Italian Highways Company (Societa’Autostrade); Developed an expert system to schedule batch jobs to run on a mainframe computer. Milan Stock Exchange; Developed an expert system to aid trouble-shooting for end-user problem resolution (help-desk support). Banca del Monte di Parma; Developed an expert system to aid in predicting likely trends of interest rates, based on a number of macro-economic factors. Italian Steel Company (Italsider); Managed a project to perform a series of feasibility studies related to applications of expert systems in the steel industry. While at Andersen I was also active in a number of head-office initiatives in Chicago. I was a member of the steering committees related to expert systems development methods and to decision support systems, and was also a regular faculty on the A.I. courses held at the central training facility in St. Charles, Ill. I started as a software engineer and then established SPL's expert systems practice in Italy.
