President’s Message
If you have not completed one of the APICS
certifications (CPIM or CSCM) then you are
missing a critical tool.
What is in it for your employer?
 Studying for the certification tests will
introduce you to new ways of doing your
job (best practices) and help you to be
more efficient and accurate
 You can speak a common language with
others in your organization
 You will learn the function behind fields
in your ERP system so you can make it
work the best way for your company
In addition to the above, what is in it for you?
 Recognition by your peers that you are a
“resident expert”
 More opportunity for advancement
inside and outside your organization
Consider mentoring one of the many bright,
motivated students in this program to help
them achieve their goals despite the challenges
they face.

Board members about their experiences. Get
started today!
Our membership continues to be strong, with a
total of 137. I am pleased to announce that
Foothills has 9 new members. Six ASU students
have joined since last month. They are Darrian
Austin, Colby Cooper, Jake Cosgrove, Lorenzo
Hernandez, Filip Maj, & Jack Sales. Also joining

We look forward to seeing everyone on the 9th.
April Program
You are invited to attend a very special APRIL
PDM to learn about Student Support Services
(SSS), a federal grant program that serves firstgeneration and low income students to be the
first in their families to earn a college degree.
Christine S. Dave’, MA, LPC, the Director of SSS
and a licensed professional counselor, along
with three ASU students will talk about the
benefits of being in this program and share new
initiatives to support the many challenges these
students face in college.

must also change. The question is what to change
and how. This book will describe in some detail a
number of management programs, many of which
are known by their three-letter acronyms, such as
Just-in-Time (JIT) or Service-Oriented Architecture
(SOA). A management program is designed to
improve an organization’s effectiveness and
efficiency. However, there are so many
management programs it is often difficult for
managers to decide which one would be most
appropriate for their operation. This book will
describe an array of management programs and
group them to indicate their primary purpose. The
book will also outline a process that will enable
managers to select the most appropriate
management program to meet their immediate and
long-term needs.

Implementing a management program is no small
task. It can be expensive, time-consuming, and
disruptive of normal operations; therefore, the
choice of the management program requires careful
selection and implementation. Care must be taken
to increase the likelihood of successfully
implementing new ventures in all types of
organizations – business, nonprofit and
governmental agencies. Many ventures fail, or
achieve limited success, not because the idea isn’t
good but because the organization has not
adequately prepared its internal capabilities to
meet the environmental conditions in which it
operates. An important feature of this book is that it
can be updated periodically to add new programs
and phase out programs no longer relevant.

Book Release
Our very own Dr. Richard Crandall, longstanding APICS member and Professor at
Appalachian State University, recently released
his latest book, co-written with his son, William
Crandall.
The book will provide readers with a comprehensive
description of the most popular management
improvement programs and their primary
applications to their organizations. We will discuss
the philosophy and principles of these programs
and include a discussion on how to use each
program to achieve optimum success. A central
theme of this book is to not just adopt an
improvement program for the sake of adopting it,
but to match the improvement program with the
specific needs in an organization. In the chapters
that follow, we will illustrate how this matching
The book, entitled “How Management
Programs can Improve Organization
Performance – Selecting and Implementing the
Best Program for your Organization”, tackles
the daunting task of evaluating and selecting
from the myriad choices of management
programs available. See press release below.
