I read several articles lately about MOOC – Massive Open Online Course. This seems like a great way to expose yourself to new ideas in a virtual classroom. If you want to read more details, check on these articles from the Charlotte Observer (Free Online Leadership Courses -12/5/12; Princeton Course for only $23.99 – 1/8/13; In a Duke logic class with 180,000 students – 1/20/13). If any of our members have experience and would be willing to share with the group, let me know. Staying on YouTube, what about these? How to Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Build a KPI Dashboard in 5 minutes SWOT Analysis: How to perform one for your organization The Heath brothers have written a couple books that I like and their next one (How to Make Better Choices in Life and Work) will be released in March. They published a link that will allow you to preview their next book – give it a look: http://heathbrothers.us6.listmanage.com/track/click?u=b6daea8c9985018 fc51094b9a&id=80975c9bb5&e=93d99bf05e. In Hickory, the TEDx event is coming up on3/23. Only $15 for an entire day of speakers and lunch! I would like to hear from you – what suggestions for low cost learning do you have for our members? In searching for a solution to an SAP question, I found several helpful videos on YouTube. Historically, I didn’t look there first, but more and more I am finding great tidbits there. Here a couple that you might find interesting from Arizona State University (the other ASU): Module 1: What is Supply Chain Management? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi1QB xVjZAw APICS Forecaster March’s Speaker Julie Pruett joined the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation as the Director of Business Recruitment in January 2004. Prior to joining the Catawba County EDC she was with the Caldwell County Economic Development Commission for six years. In addition to serving as Interim Director for approximately 18 months she held various titles during her tenure with the Caldwell County EDC including Assistant Director and 2 March 2013 Director of Business Retention and Expansion. In addition to her experience in economic development, Pruett has experience in grants administration, public budgeting, governmental planning and finance. I would like to welcome a new member to the chapter, Tom Schultz. Tom is a Global Systems Manager with Corning. He will be formerly recognized at the March PDM on the 14th. Please join me in welcoming him on board. I encourage you to introduce yourself and congratulate Tom on his new designation. Pruett has served as advocate and catalyst for industrial, distribution and service industries by promoting growth and expansion of all ranges of the economic development sector. She has spearheaded the recruitment of business and industry that has resulted in over 3,600 new jobs and $240 million of new capital investment throughout her career. Finally, as the Chair of the Nominating Committee this year, I would like to encourage you to consider serving a term on the Board of Directors. Many leadership opportunities will be available. We welcome new ideas and creativity! Feel free to ask any of the current board members more about this wonderful opportunity and to throw your name in the hat. Nominations will be made in April, so please think about how you can contribute to the success of the Foothills Chapter, APICS Platinum award winner in 2012. Pruett earned the professional designation of Certified Economic Developer in 2009. Her educational background includes a Master of Public Administration from Appalachian State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Lenoir-Rhyne University. She is also a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute.
