Sexually Transmitted Disease Nurse Clinician Training PURPOSE: ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA: To provide a standardized curriculum for local health department nurses to prepare them to implement a comprehensive STD screening and treatment program. To meet Communicable Disease Agreement Addenda requirements. BSN or completion of “Introduction to Principles and Practices of Public Health and Public Health Nursing.” Completion of “Physical Assessment of Adults.” Completion of a “Testing and Referral” (CTR) course that meets CDC and DPH/CDB guidelines (may be completed concurrently with the STD Nurse Clinician Course.) Commitment by agency to provide time during the workday for participant to complete assignments and practice skills and to allow participant to utilize skills upon course completion. FORMAT: The eight week self-paced, web-based course uses a variety of methods and media such as synchronized audio/slide presentations, video, handouts and activities. There is an available to grade assignments and answer questions during the time that the course is available. The didactic portion of the course is followed by a six-month STD clinical practicum with a preceptor at the local health department. COST: A fee of $400.00 per participant is charged for this course; other costs are underwritten by the Division of Public Health. Transportation, motel, and per diem expenses, as well as purchase of required text, if any, are the responsibility of the individual agency.
