Hillrise Elementary School Electronic Gradebook Technology Plan Hillrise Elementary School _________________________________________________________________ According to the 2002-03 school accountability report, the school administration and staff consists of one administrator, thirty-five teachers, eight ancillary staff, eleven educational assistants, and two secretaries. There were 574 students enrolled at Hillrise with 100% of 5th grade students promoted to 6th grade. Currently, there are three students who are monolingual in a language other than English, four students who are partial speakers of English, and four students who are bilingual with academic Student Enrollment by Ethnicity African Native Asian American American 4% 3% 1% Hispanic 41% Anglo 51% Vision & Goals _________________________________________________________________ Vision and Goals statement: To effectively communicate with parents and provide accurate records of students’ success and identify areas of concerns, Hillrise Elementary will implement a school wide electronic gradebook. The goals include: • ease transition of student information to the next grade level, • provide accurate and comprehensive reports requested by staff, parents, or teachers, • use as a communication tool for parent involvement to support student learning, • all teachers will participate in staff development to develop skills to use the electronic grade book efficiently. Needs Assessment _________________________________________________________________ An electronic grade book will assist teachers in their daily operations of assessing and recording student grades • attendance • accurate records of missed assignments • immediate access to all student records • grade reports easily available for parent conferences and grade justification • capability as well as the convenience of printing out information on any particular student will aid in the success of the student Options Available weighting scores allow parents to logon to a web site and view student records notification systems that automatically e-mail parents with information on grades and absences absence notice when child is marked absent and a parent has not called a warning if child’s grades slip below a certain point telephone interface to let parents without computer access call anytime to get their kids’ grades handheld device enabling all school personnel to instantly look up any student anywhere seating chart with student photos build standards based lesson plans and print out detailed weekly and plan reports run on Palm OS handheld devices to enter your grades Staff Development _________________________________________________________________ • two days at the beginning of the fall semester will be used as staff development days for teacher training sessions • PowerPoint presentation for all staff members to view the features of the selected software • assemble a team of teachers consisting of one teacher per grade level to be trained on using the grade book together • each member trained will in turn train the remaining teachers at his/her grade level during team meetings • teachers will be assigned a mentor to work through the initial implementation • a month after implementation, one teacher will be selected to hold individual user conferences to solve problems and answer questions • follow-up session repeated each month Parent Training _________________________________________________________________ • PTO President will be trained along with the teachers so that she can in turn instruct other parents through an evening hands-on training session • Parents will be able to enroll in the after school program to receive training in the school’s computer lab on the options the software has available for them.
