Year 6 Each fortnight your child must: Complete 10 teacher selected tasks on ‘mathletics’ Complete a blog on their learning platform, these will be shared with other children in the class Practice their multiplication tables (a slip saying which ones will be attached to their home school book) We have ordered homework books for Year 6. Please can they only complete the page given to them, by their teacher, as the task will reinforce the work completed in class. Each fortnight they will have: A grammar activity A punctuation activity A maths activity A spelling activity (this may be a sheet or the book) Take Home Tasks There are four take home tasks to choose from for each topic. Your child needs to complete one of them; however should you or they wish to complete more that is fine too! You will notice that we have not stipulated how the children should approach tasks or how the finished result should be displayed. To help develop thinking skills we would really like these choices to be lead by the children, supported by yourselves. For example, if your child chooses to, ‘write an invitation to a Royal Banquet’ they could decide to write it on normal paper, use the computer, use separate paper which they decorate/tea-stain etc, place it in an envelope with their very own royal seal … it is entirely up to the children. It is often very tempting to add your own touch to children’s work – particularly creative work – please try to resist the temptation, valuing your child’s own level of creativity. Mathletics If you do not have access to a computer or the internet at home please do not worry. Please speak with your child's class teacher and they will arrange for your child to have time to complete their mathletics tasks in school. Reading Your child is still expected to read a minimum of three times a week and diaries will be checked every Monday. We have also purchased licences for some online reading programmes that some year groups will be able to access at home. More information to follow on these shortly. Learning Platform Please note your child has a login to our learning platform in the back of their planner where they can access secure email, blogging and other secure online learning activities. Please remember our expectations on presentation; children should write in pencil using cursive handwriting and they should take pride in the way they present their work. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher. Kind regards Denise Burgess Headteacher
