Topics include assets (current, fixed, and intangible), investments, financial statements, income taxes, liabilities, stockholders equity, revenue recognition, asset acquisition and leases. Preparation for part of the CPA Exam. Consider pursuing a Certificate in Accounting and, ultimately, an AA degree. COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES CLO: After completing this course, students will be able describe and analyze the criteria to differentiate capital lease vs. operating lease and utilize the related accounting techniques to real world. After completing this course, students will be able to describe and differentiate the various kinds of acquisition, utilization and disposition of noncurrent operating assets and apply to real business. After completing this course, students will be able to list, explain, and apply the various types of revenue recognition and associated accounting techniques in accordance with GAAP. Grading Policy: There will be four exams, as described in the course outline. Grading will be as follows (grading on exams on a curve). You have the DUTY to assist anyone who asks for help. You are expected to have studied the assigned chapter. You are expected to have done your homework and spent some time thinking about your solution. You are expected to bring your textbook, working papers and a calculator to every class meeting. From time to time, I MAY apply at my discretion a factor (The“ R” Factor) to a particular exam. This factor is based my arbitrary and subjective opinion of the difficulty of that particular exam and is NOT negotiable. An "I" grade is given only when a small portion of the course work must be completed. Student must have attended the first fifteen weeks of the semester. If the work is not completed by the end of the following semester, class grade will be computed with the incomplete course work as 0%. This MUST be discussed with the professor. Students who OFFICIALLY withdraw by May 8th shall receive a grade of "W". Students may NOT officially withdraw after May 8, but will be given their earned grade. Policies and Procedures Class Sessions All reading assignments should be completed before class. You are responsible for all material covered in lectures and in‐class instructional activities. Homework Each student must complete his/her homework. You may work together, but each student has to the assignment separately. Homework is due at the beginning of class. Points will be deducted from any homework that is improperly submitted. Drop Policy If you decide to drop the course, it is your responsibility to take care of the necessary details by the appropriate deadline. Attendance/Drop Policy Students are expected to attend all class sessions. You are responsible for notifying the instructor, in advance, of any absence or scheduling conflict. You may be dropped from the class if you miss more than two consecutive classes without notifying me. Students who are out for three sessions due to illness need to provide a doctor’s note to be reinstated back into the class. Although I retain the right to drop you given the above circumstances, it is nevertheless your responsibility as a student to withdraw from this class if you do not intend to complete it. Students should not expect faculty to initiate withdrawal procedures for them. You can drop a class in person, by telephone, or by internet ‐‐ please contact the Admissions Office for more information.
