Comic Book Summary
The Odyssey is a tough read! After our first day diving into it, you can probably agree with that. With each day that we get more into it, though, I
promise it will get easier. To help you follow the story a bit better and in order to ensure that you are keeping track of all of the crazy happenings
along Odysseus’ journey, we will be creating a series of comic strips to summarize the key moments from each section.
Directions
Every few sections of reading, you will be responsible for creating a comic strip (6 boxes per section) to demonstrate your understanding of the
reading. In each box of the comic strip, depict one of the major events that happened in that section and draw an illustration to depict that event.
These drawing should be more elaborate than just one stick figure (though I have nothing against stick figures); there should be a little more to it,
such as color, background images, dialogue, and “action.” Think of when you are reading a comic book and action words like “POW” and
“KABAM” are written over something like an explosion image.
The events depicted should be added in the comic strip in chronological order (the order in which they appear in the text) and should cover the
entire section. In other words, the first box in your strip should represent the first big thing to happen within that section, while the last box
represents the last big thing to happen within that section. Make sense?
Sometimes, these will be assigned as homework—so be sure to keep an eye on the agenda for when certain pieces of the comic strip are due! As each
“piece” is due, I will walk around and check off on your progress to ensure that you are keeping up, and then we will turn in the completed comic
books after finishing The Odyssey.
