Assignment 17: Develop a Comic Strip / SAT Vocabulary Grade: Quiz Directions: Develop a comic strip about topic of your choosing. 1) Develop a comic strip following the guidelines in the rubric below. 2) Include any 7-10 words from any SAT vocabulary assignment you’d had during the 3rd and 4th quarters. As you include this vocabulary, redefine the meaning of the word in the sentence and context as you have done in all SAT vocabulary activities. 3) To successfully complete this assignment, you will submit a sequence of at least four frames (see the attached document to see the format) as stated in the rubric. If you don’t feel comfortable drawing, you may work with a classmate, someone who has drawing ability—please let me know if you do, so I know who you are when the assignment is graded. You may also use the drawings you completed in Assignment 7. Comic Strip: Revise the comic according to the following criteria. Areas Description Points Artwork Excellent detail is evident in all scenes. Drawings are colored, black and white, and original. The art work is neat and presentable. 10 Content The comic shows a plot which displays brief humor and adventure, often reflecting issues that directly affect students. 20 SAT Vocab The student has included 7-10 words in the comic. The vocabulary fits the context and can be easily understood within context. The definition of the word(s) is restated in the sentences. Captions are related to the scenes. Writing in all frames is cohesive and is followed with ease. The language is sophisticated and corresponds to the characters’ personalities. The main characters (3 at most) are clearly identified, and their actions and dialogue are well-matched. Characters are also defamiliarized. Thought/ Speech bubbles are present and clearly reveal a character's thoughts or relay dialogue efficiently. 20 Writing is virtually error free. The writer uses proper punctuation and capitalization. 10 Captions Characters Thought/Speech Bubbles Conventions 20 10 10
