STUDY GUIDE
Note: This exam will not be open note. In addition to the trial, you are expected to
create and study flash cards in order to prepare. You may also get five 20 minute
study signatures for 2 extra credit points; please fill out the back of the sheet and
turn in on Thursday December 5.
Format of test:
35 multiple choice questions
2 extended responses (one will be on George Orwell’s message)
Since you have just finished closely examining the novel, a majority of the exam will
be on the supplementary material:
Allegory of novel (how Orwell uses animals to send a social message)
Russian Revolution symbolism specifically:
Propaganda techniques (in Animal Farm and in the media)
George Orwell biographical notes (from class reading on Tuesday 11/26)
Specifically-his childhood, his experience in Spain, journalism
experience during World War II, concerns about Communism,
dictatorships and the use of propaganda, why he wrote Animal Farm,
difficulty in getting the book published
In order to prepare, you are required to make 20 flash cards on any of the above;
these will be due on Monday December 2.
