We are having a day off from school! Monday, January 19th. We will see you
on Tuesday, January 20th! In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday
Tongass School of Arts and Sciences Families,
The time has finally come to celebrate our great readers and have our school battles.
On January 16th, at 11 am, 3rd and 4th grade will be competing to see which team will represent Tongass in the
district battle next month. The battle with take place in Ms. Orlowski’s room and is expected to be done by recess.
Our 5th and 6th grade teams will also compete on January 16th but will do so at 2:30 pm immediately after
swimming. The 5/6 battle will take place in Mr Olsen/ Mrs Mike’s room and is expecting to be finished by the
day’s end.
If you are able to attend, we would love to have you come and watch your fabulous students. I know there can
only be one winning team from each grade level but please know that all these children are winners in my book!
They have spent much time reading on their own as well as staying after school with me for weeks! Thanks for
sharing your readers with me: it’s been a blast :)
Ms Sandi

APC News
We would like to invite and encourage you to attend our APC Meetings. In general, the meetings are
held the first and third Mondays of every month at 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. There is great knowledge and
information to be gained by your attendance and input at these meetings. As sometimes it happens, we
do not always have the agenda and handouts ready to include in the newsletter. However, if you call
the office, we will always, by Friday, be able to give a general overview of the planned meeting. If you
are interested, but cannot attend our APC meetings, please call the office and let any of us know that
you would like a copy of the agenda, handouts and minutes. This is your student’s school!!! Let us
know your thoughts.
Friday, January 23, the Jazz Cabaret will be here to perform for our school and Ketchikan Charter School.
If you would like to attend, please meet us at 10:30 in the gym.
Student Council will be selling chocolate milk for $1.00 and granola bars for $.50 this Friday.
Additionally, goggles will be available for $1.00 rental.
Please don’t forget that there is an Activities Bus that runs Island Wide, Monday – Friday. The bus
leaves at 4:15 from Tongass School of Arts and Sciences and goes to Houghtaling.
