Semester 2 Exam Study Guide

The Semester 2 Exam will consist of 5 sections.

I. Principal parts taken from verbs memorized throughout the year. A cumulative list of verbs (through

Chapter 31) accompanies this study guide and has been posted on the course web site. I recommend that you study the verbs on this list thoroughly, preferably by using flash cards.

II. Pronouns and Adjectives: You will be asked to write all the forms of some of the pronouns and adjectives we have covered in the last semester. These may include:

hic, haec, hoc quī, quae, quod

ille, illa, illud

is, ea, id

quīdam, quaedam, quoddam

quis, (quis), quid

Īdem, eadem, idem ipse, ipsa, ipsum

ego, vōs, tū, and nōs (1st and 2nd person personal pronouns)

III. Verb synopses: Verbs of any conjugation, as well as the irregular verbs sum, possum, volō, nōlō, eō, and ferō. Be able to give the active and passive of the present, future, and imperfect tenses, the active of the perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect tenses, and the singular and plural imperative forms.

IV. Sentence translation and grammar questions: This will be done in the usual way. For the grammar questions, please be sure you know the usages of the various cases (nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, ablative, and vocative).

V. Parsing grid: You will be given a longer passage of Latin and be asked to parse forms from the Latin, as you did on the Semester I final. We will practice this in class prior to the exam.
