JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Deputy Director Reports to: Executive Director Program: SWADC Central Office FLSA Status: Exempt Last Revised: June 20, 2015 JOB SUMMARY The Deputy Director will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director with the overall management of the agency, including coordination, integration, and implementation of all resources and services necessary to meet the agencies goals. Additionally, the Deputy Director will be responsible for program management, grant administration, and professional work in managing the Agency’s programs and grants. The Deputy Director must believe in the core values of SWADC and be driven by the mission and vision of the Agency. This candidate must demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground that leads to organizational and social change. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, and other job- related duties may be assigned: Work under the Direction of the Executive Director, and assumes full responsibility in the absence of the Executive Director. Working in partnership with the Executive Director, creates a strategic 5 year plan and implements new processes and approaches to achieve it. Provides internal leadership abilities by assisting with the annual operations planning and budgeting; leading the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress in comparison with the goals of the Agency; Be able to direct and evaluate all administrative functions for all departments by addressing all issues and seeking solutions related to management. Be loyal, trustworthy, confidential and dependable, thereby creating a strong day-to-day leadership presence for Agency employees. Assist with fund-raising ideas for the local offices; identify geographical growth opportunities among the various communities that we service; assist with proposal preparation and grant writing. Programmatic responsibilities include: ensuring that all Agency contracts are renewed; Develop curriculum, tools, and training within budgetary guidelines; provide guidance and leadership through management of Agency metrics and measurement reporting processes. In partnership with the Executive Director, provides staff support and guidance to the Board and act as staff liaison to relevant Board committees; present to the Board at quarterly meetings and serve on Board Committees as needed. Oversee letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other legal documents and agreements Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programmatic functions to develop a broad and deep knowledge of all programs. Identify opportunities for the Agency to leverage cross program strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and/or address organizational challenges. Lead, Coach, develop, and retain high-performance Senior Management with an emphasis on developing capacity in strategic analysis, planning and program budgeting. Ensure the continued financial viability of the Agency’s operational units through sound fiscal management. Be a good ambassador for the Agency with governmental agencies and community; cultivate and manage existing relationships with funders to secure and expand sources of revenue Provide periodic training to Program Directors as strategic plans are implemented and transitions occur within departmental operations. Develop and implement a system for tracking and reporting on the progress of the strategic plan implementation. Education and/or Experience A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field required; minimum of 3 years of Management experience preferably in working with a non-profit program. Result- proven record of exceeding goals and bottom line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis and wisdom; high level of business acumen; ability to demonstrate problem-solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness. Strategic Vision and Agility- ability to think strategically and anticipate future trends Capacity Building- ability to effectively build organization and staff capacity, developing a top-notch workforce and ensure that all aspects of the organization run smoothly Leadership and Organization- exceptional capacity for managing and leading people; experience in connecting with staff to drive and empower leaders from the bottom up, lead from the top down and put staff in a position to succeed. Proficient in operating standard office equipment, including: copier/fax/scanner machine, adding machines and computer equipment. Language Skills Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with the general public and all Administrative personnel as well as subordinates; Good knowledge of English, grammar, spelling and punctuation; Ability to type accurately and proficiently; Organizational and analytical skills to plan and complete work assignments with minimal supervision and within established deadlines. Reasoning Ability Enjoy challenges; ability to act and react as necessary, even when limited information is available; ability to multi-task Mathematical Skills Thorough understanding of Finance, Management information systems; broad experience with the full range of business functions and systems, business analysis Physical Skills While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, feel, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend; reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
