To show your understanding of the structure of atoms, you are being asked to create a labeled diagram of an
atom from one of the first 18 elements on the Periodic Table of the Elements.
Begin with a rough draft, lightly sketched with pencil. Get this signed off by a teacher, and then make it
permanent using colored pencils and black, fine-tip pen for words and lines. (Artistry)
Your diagram should include the following:
The Nucleus




The correct number of protons and neutrons are drawn.
Protons and neutrons are distinctively different colors.
Protons and neutrons are shaded to create a 3-D effect. (Artistry)
The charge of the protons and neutrons is shown.
The Electron Cloud




The correct number of electron shells is visible.
The correct number of electrons in each shell is included.
The charge of the electrons is shown.

Title the diagram with the Greek/Latin name (and the modern name in parentheses) of the element



this atom is part of.
Example: Argentum (Silver)
Include the element symbol and the atomic number
Label the regions of the atom (Nucleus and Electron Shells)
Include the electron configuration
