Matter
Test Review
Chemistry 9/23/14
Drill
A sample of carbon dioxide is chilled until it
turns into a solid. Then, as it warms, it turns
directly back to a gas. A lightning bolt energizes
it to a plasma state. After cooling, it returns to
gaseous.
Name each transition of state, and state the
change in density and kinetic energy.
HW: pg. 3 Matter—Substances vs. Mixtures
Objectives
IWBAT
describe the four states of matter, in terms of kinetic
energy and density
review the material from Unit 1 and see where I need
to improve
define elements, compounds, and mixtures, and give
examples of each
NOTE: Lab on FRIDAY—you MUST have
closed toe shoes & hair tied back, etc.

Unit 1 Test
Ms. Bloedorn will distribute your Unit 1 Tests to
you. Take a look at them and ask questions—we
will go in order, from the front page to the back.
We will review scientific notation, especially the
problems.
There will be a “do-over” section about scientific
notation on your quiz on Friday—it is optional, and
you may earn back ONLY as many points as you
lost on that section.
