Parking
You may NOT Park
 Beside another parked vehicle
 On crosswalks or sidewalks
 By curbs painted yellow
 Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
 Within 20 feet of an intersection
 Within 15 feet of the entrance to a fire or rescue
station
 Within 500 feet of a fire truck answering a call
 Within 50 feet of a RR crossing
PAINTED CURBS
WHITE: stop only long
enough to pick up or drop off
passengers.
YELLOW: Stop only long
enough to load or unload. Stay
with your car.
RED: Do not stop, stand or
park..
BLUE: Parking is reserved for
persons with disabilities

Angle Parking
Parking at a 30 Degree
Angle to the Curb
Right or Left Angle Parking
• Stay 3-5 feet from
parked vehicles to
give yourself room to
see and maneuver.
• Observe traffic in all
directions, and signal
for a right turn.
Right or Left Angle Parking
• Proceed until you can
see along the left side
of the vehicle on the
right space you will
enter.
• Steer sharply to the
right.
• Creep ahead slowly
into the space midway
between the lines
Right or Left Angle Parking
• Check left front and
right rear for
clearance.
• As you straighten the
wheels, move
forward until the front
of your vehicle is
aligned with those on
both sides.
Right or Left Angle Parking
Backing out
• Check over right
shoulder.
• Back out turning
steering wheel to the
right
• Check left front and
right rear for
clearance.
• Drive with flow of
traffic

Parking at a 90 Degree Angle to the Curb
Perpendicular Parking
• Stay 5-7 feet
from parked
cars for best
visibility.
• Check traffic in
all directions.
• Signal for a
right turn
Perpendicular Parking
• While driving
slowly, start
turning right
when you can
look down the
right side of
the vehicle
parked to the
right of your
chosen space.
Perpendicular Parking
• Check for
clearance of your
left front bumper
and right rear
fender.
• As you straighten
the wheels, center
the vehicle and
move slowly to the
curb or inline with
the vehicle next to
you.

Parallel Parking
• Approach the parking
spot in the proper lane
• Check traffic behind
you.
• Signal in the direction
of the curb.
• Tap brakes to alert
vehicles behind you.
Parallel Parking
• Move parallel to the vehicle in front of
the space, leaving about 3-4 feet
between vehicles.
• Stop when outside
mirrors are even.
• Keep foot on brake
and shift to Reverse

• Turn the steering wheel sharply to the
right.
• Back up slowly until you can see down
the rear bumper of the vehicle in front.

• Continue backing slowly, straightening
your front wheels.
• When your front bumper lines up with
the rear bumper of the vehicle you’re
parking behind, begin steering rapidly
to the left.

• Stop before making contact with the
bumper of the vehicle behind the space.
• With your foot on the brake, shift to Drive.
• Move forward
slowly centering
your vehicle in
the parking
space.
This Is Not Parallel Parking
Parking on a Hill
When parking on a hill, you need
to take special precautions to
make sure your vehicle will not
roll into the street and into traffic.
Uphill Parking
With a curb:
• Bring vehicle to normal
parallel parked position.
• Turn wheels to the left
as far as they will go.
• Place vehicle in Neutral
(N), cover the brake,
and allow vehicle to roll
back slowly until the
right front tire touches
the curb.
• Set parking brake.
Up Hill + Curb
Uphill Parking
Without a curb:
• Bring vehicle to
normal parallel
parked position.
• Center vehicle in the
parking space with
the front wheels
turned to the right as
far as they will go.
• If the vehicle begins
to roll, it will move off
roadway.
Up Hill - Curb
Downhill Parking
With a curb:
• Bring vehicle to normal
parallel parked position.
• Turn wheels to the right
as far as they will go
and move slowly
forward.
• Stop the vehicle when
the front right tire
touches the curb.
• Set the parking brake.
Down Hill
Downhill Parking
With out a curb:
• Bring vehicle to normal
parallel parked position.
• Turn wheels to the right
as far as they will go.
• Stop the vehicle as
close to the inner edge
of the shoulder as
possible.
• Set the parking brake.
