500 - MARKETING I CP1 2.5 credits (Grades: 9-12) This semester course is a study of the basic marketing concept and its practical application. Students will examine the challenges marketers face in the marketplace; from meeting consumer wants & needs to establishing a competitive edge. Topics will include: the 4Ps, market segmentation, product development, consumer behavior, pricing strategies, distribution, and promotional activities. Marketing I allows students to build a solid foundation of marketing and business skills, which can be further developed through the Business Department’s elective course offerings. This course also satisfies the DECA club’s business class requirement for membership. Course Objectives: As per the National Standards of Business Education: Recognize the customer-oriented nature of marketing and analyze the impact of marketing activities on the individual, business and society. Analyze the elements of the marketing mix, their interrelationships and how they are used in the marketing process. Explore the influence of internal and external factors on marketing. Assessments: Tests/Projects: 40% - Tests will be given with advance notice and proper review. It is your responsibility to schedule any make ups within one week from when the test was given. Projects will have 10 points deducted for each day late. Quizzes: 30% - Be ready! Quizzes may be unannounced and apply to any and all class work. Classwork/Homework: 20% - All homework and class work is expected to be passed in on time for full credit. (√+ = A, √ = B, √- = C) Participation – Attitude – Conduct – Effort: 10% - This portion of your grade can be a major difference maker, at the end of the term, in going from a C+ to a B- or a B+ to an A-. ***Class Notes and Assignments: You are responsible for both when absent.
