Joe Moreno Principal National Junior LAMAR MIDDLE SCHOOL 219 Crandall Street (972) 600-4400 Irving, Texas 75060 Fax (972) 313-4499 Denise Anderson Assistant Principal Administrative Sponsor Meghan Bible Sponsor Honor Society Requirement Agreement 2015-2016 Academic Year Dear National Junior Honor Society Member: Membership in the Lamar Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is an honor which you have earned. As a current member of NJHS, you are required to adhere to the following in order to remain in good standing: 1. You must turn in this beginning-of-the-year requirement agreement. If you do not return this contract, you will not be allowed to participate in our activities. 2. Members are required to complete a minimum of 5 service hours EACH semester. Service activities must be documented on the Service Log and signed by a supervising adult who is NOT A FAMILY MEMBER. Service activities must benefit the community (school, neighborhood, city, etc.). Examples of activities that are NOT acceptable service activities: activities in which the student is compensated in ANY way (i.e. money, gifts, objects, rewards, favors, etc.) assisting family members (i.e. babysitting a sibling) household chores activities performed during school hours activities that are required for a group or club (i.e. performing in a school concert, student ambassador, etc.) activities that directly benefit a club or for-profit organization (i.e. fund-raising for a club) 3. Participate in at least one community service project supported by the Lamar Middle School NJHS Chapter. If you do not participate in a LMS sponsored service project, you must earn 2 extra hours of pre-approved and documented community service on your own time. 4. Maintain an 85 or better in each class every six weeks. Grades will be verified by Ms. Bible at the end of each six weeks once report cards are released. A member whose report card grades falls below an 85 will be placed on probation and considered to be in poor standing. If a member’s average falls below 85 for two consecutive six weeks, the member will be dismissed from National Junior Honor Society. Members on probation are still responsible for meeting all club requirements. Members are subject to dismissal if they do not maintain the same standards of scholarship, leadership, service and character that are used as a basis for their selection. For example, a student is not maintaining the standards of scholarship or character if he or she cheats or plagiarizes; a student is not maintaining the standards of character and leadership if he or she exhibits negative behavior in class or in the hallways (swearing, causing fights, etc.). Failure to meet any of the requirements will result in the member falling into poor standing. Students in poor standing will be notified in writing of their position. 5. Maintain all A’s in citizenship each six weeks. Character and citizenship are greatly valued in the NJHS and classroom behavior of its members is expected to be the best of the best. Should you receive one or more B’s, you will be placed on probation until the next report card. If not improved by the following report card period, you will be dismissed from NJHS. 6. You are required to attend ALL NJHS meetings. We will have at least two meetings each semester. The meetings will be held in room 134 after school from 4:00-4:45 pm. During the meetings we discuss fundraisers, club business, and service projects. If you cannot attend, please notify Ms. Bible via email at least 1 day before the meeting. If there is no written record of your attendance or excuse, then you are marked absent. For each absence at a meeting, the member is responsible for participating in 2 extra hours of community service. 8th grade athletes are expected to attend for the first 30 minutes of the meeting.
