SCAVENGER HUNT PROJECT-100pts
Spanish is everywhere!
Find the items from this list. Good sources are: newspapers, magazines, junk mail, the
Internet, and the community. Items should be compiled in a notebook/folder/ put in
order and numbered. The Scavenger Hunt Notebook is due on Monday,April 11th.
You need to find:
1. Instructions (to anything) printed or cut-out in Spanish.
2. Picture of Hispanic sports person NOT from the United States, but playing on a US team.
Include name, country of origin, sport name and team name.
3. Real beverage label (not from internet) in Spanish or made in a Spanish-speaking country.
Alcohol/beer will not be accepted. Drink the beverage and write 1 sentence describing what
it was like.
4. Real food label (not from internet) in Spanish or made in a Spanish-speaking country. Eat
the food and write 1 sentence describing what it was like.
5. Signature and printed name of an adult inside of school who speaks Spanish fluently.
6. Signature and printed name of a person outside of school who uses Spanish regularly in
his/her job. Describe their job.
7. Go to the McDonalds website in mexico. Make a list of 3 similarities and 3 differences with
McDonalds here in the states. http://www.mcdonalds.com.mx/
8. Find a Hispanic musician or musical group. Include lyrics to a song or picture of album cover.
They must have at least some songs in Spanish.
9. Book title (include picture of cover) or article about a book by Hispanic author. Include
book title and author’s name.
10. Name of a store/business in the Tigard area with a Spanish name and theme/focus. Include
a picture, flyer, business card, or detailed description of the theme/focus. May not be a
restaurant.
11. Name of a restaurant in the Tigard area with a Spanish name & theme. Include a picture,
menu, flyer, business card, or detailed description of location. Taco Bell, Chipotle, Qdoba
and other non authentic restaurants do not count.
12. Name of a street in the Tigard area with a Spanish name (write meaning in English also).
Include a picture or detailed description of the location.
13. List 10 cities in the United States with Spanish name. Include the state as well. Define in
English the names of the cities.
14. Make a list from the sources you’ve found (newspaper/magazine/instructions, etc) 10 new
cognates in Spanish that you come across during your scavenger hunt. The words may not
come from your vocabulary list. Write English translation next to each cognate.
15. Picture of any animal with the name of the animal in Spanish & English. Not animals learned
in class
16. Shop on-line at el Corte Ingles at www.elcorteingles.es and pick out an outfit for the
weekend. Include a top, bottom, shoes and accessory. Print out your “cart” and or write a
detailed description of your cart and put it into your notebook.
17. A coin or bill (or picture of one) from a Spanish-speaking country. Include country and
Spanish name of the coin or bill (even if it’s already on the bill/coin). Write the exchange
rate into US dollars ex 1 peso - X dollars
18. Find three high-paying professions that require you to speak Spanish or are greatly
enhanced if you speak Spanish. Explain why speaking Spanish is needed/improves the
profession. You can research this on the internet, come up with them on your own, or
discuss it with your friends/parents. Obvious answers do not count: Spanish teacher,
translator, Spanish-speaking talk-show host, etc.
19. A section or article from newspaper or magazine that is printed in Spanish. This may not be
from the Internet.
20. Write a quote from President Obama talking about a Spanish-speaking country or Hispanic
immigrants. Include where you found the quote (Name of newspaper, list internet site, etc).
21. Find literature (handouts/flyers/pamphlets) in Spanish while you’re out in the community.
Add what you find to the notebook and include where you found it.
22. Recreate a famous work of art by a Spanish speaking artist. Draw it in your notebook.
Include the artists name, where they are from , and the name of the original piece of art.
23. Make a 5-item wish-list from www.amazon.es/ print a copy of your cart or write the list into
your notebook.
24. Find something unique on your own- include a detailed description of what it is, and where
you found it.
25. A paragraph (5 sentences minimum) in English describing, in your own words: 1) The most fun
part of the project, 2) the hardest part of the project, and 3) something interesting you
learned while doing the project.

Grading: This counts as a TEST GRADE!
 Each of the 25 pages will be worth 3 points for a total of 75 points.
 25pts/ 5pts each: neatness, creativity, accuracy, originality, and effort.
 Your scavenger hunt will NOT be graded if it is not numbered NOR in order.
It will be returned to you and considered late.
 One day late: maximum grade of a 85%, 2 days late 75%, after two days late
it will not be accepted.
Do not procrastinate! Start on this project NOW! Please come see me in the morning or
after school if you have any questions. As well, use your free-time at school to utilize the
computers if needed. When we go to the computer labs in class, you can always work on
this project once you are done with our required work.
