JOB DESCRIPTION POST: International Development Officer (2 posts) POST REF: INT/29 TENURE: One permanent and one temporary to cover maternity leave DEPARTMENT: YSJ International GRADE: 6 HOURS: 37 hours per week MANAGED BY: Director, International Development SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Marketing Admissions Faculties Overseas Offices EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS: Education Agents Prospective international students British Council Institutional Partners English UK International Agencies British Embassies (specifically student visa managers) UKBA OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POST To support the University’s International Development Strategy, marketing the University overseas; recruiting international students to the range of study opportunities at YSJU including degree study, short courses, and English Language programmes; and promoting a culture of internationalisation across the University by developing partnerships; identifying opportunities for TNE, projects, exchanges and joint research on behalf of faculties. MAIN TASKS 1. Undertake market research for designated geographical areas and develop effective recruitment plans to recruit students to targets, on the basis of research and working to a specified budget. Provide specialist advice on market trends and developments, and support the Director, International Development in the development and delivery of the University’s international marketing and recruitment strategy. 3. Undertake student recruitment visits overseas, representing the University at education exhibitions and on private visits, in line with the international marketing strategy and country/regional recruitment plans. 4. Undertake visits to new and existing partner institutions to identify needs and opportunities in line with Faculty agendas, and to develop joint projects, TNE opportunities, staff and student exchanges, articulations and progression routes, and bespoke short courses. 5. Assist in the development of a network of agents and partners in key geographical areas, acting as the key point of contact with them and working with them on recruitment events during overseas visits. 6. Deal with individual enquiries from partners, potential students and other groups, offering a friendly and efficient service. 7. Promote the reputation of York St John University in designated markets. 8. Work with the University Marketing & Communications team to develop suitable marketing materials, both printed and web-based, for YSJ International’s key markets, providing specialist input on designated markets/publications. 9. Maintain close contact with faculties, providing advice on market and partner needs in relation to respective subject areas, creating new projects that support internationalisation strategy, identifying study and work placement opportunities, facilitating staff mobility and assisting in the organisation of international conferences. 10. Liaise with British Embassies overseas, London-based Embassies and agents, Home Office, and British Council to facilitate partnerships and student recruitment. 11. Work with Heads of Programme and International Admissions Manager to ensure the speedy and efficient processing of international applications, liaising with agents and partners as required. 12. Assist in planning and hosting visits from international partner institutions and agencies, including familiarisation visits. 13. Assist with the compilation of statistics and annual returns, including the Annual Operating Plan and evaluative reports. 14. Preparing and submitting bids for business development opportunities, and project funding e.g. British Council. 15. Promote international opportunities through YSJ Connect.
