Perspective Matters

Pick an event or time period from 1600 to present that happened anywhere in the world. This event cannot solely exist within the United States; it must be a world event. Your task is to research and explain two different perspectives/beliefs of this event. In addition, you will select two pieces of literature/media and consider how they represent the perspectives/beliefs of the event. You are encouraged to consider the validity of each argument in your essay.

Process

1.

History: a.

Choose a significant event or time period from 17 th

to the 21 st

century (1600present). b.

Research the historical context and background of your event. Document and organize facts onto note cards. Each note card must contain only one fact with the complete reference provided. A minimum of 10 note cards is required. c.

Write a half-page MLA-formatted summary paraphrasing the significance of the event. d.

Annotate two primary or secondary sources that identify the two perspectives. e.

Write a half-page MLA-formatted analysis of each of the two documents. This analysis may be included in your paper.

2.

English: a.

Annotate two pieces of literature (poetry, novel, speech, song, film, etc.) that support two different perspectives. b.

Write a half-page MLA-formatted analysis of the document of each of the two documents. This analysis may be included in your paper. c.

Develop an outline of the paper. d.

Write a complete rough draft meeting the following expectations: i.

The paper should be 3-5 pages in length ii.

All information from sources should be referenced with parenthetical citations and included in a works cited page. iii.

MLA format (i. e. Typed, double-spaced, 1” margins, 12 point Times New

Roman)

3.

Re-write the paper into a final draft (include rough draft and works cited page).

4.

Present your research according to your history teacher’s directions.

Works Cited

A minimum of 5 different sources must be cited

 book, online database (EBSCO), and Internet must all be used

 two history perspectives, two literature/media, one additional source (historical background/context)

 all sources must be verifiable – accurate and authentic

A Works Cited page must accompany the rough and final drafts
