Organ Donation and Transplantation Research Report
The class will spend two periods researching topics related to organ donation and transplantation. The
information you gather will form the necessary background details to write a report about your findings.
You will take point-form notes on your topic and record the sources of your information for a list of Works Cited
(title of source, title of article, author, publisher, page number, etc.) Your research can start at Wikipedia, but it
must move beyond that.
Choose one of the following topics or discuss a topic of your own with me. Do not just go ahead and start
working on a topic of your own – I may not accept it later!
 Buying and selling of organs
 Costs associated with keeping recipients alive
 Religious perspectives
 Specific types of transplants
 Artificial organs
 Partial donors and other innovative techniques
WRITING PROCESS
1. Choose a topic and write out at least five related questions you would like to find the answers to. These
questions could be used to create your subheadings for the body of the essay.

Research to find answers. Be sure to write down all necessary info for Works Cited as you research. The
questions with point-form answers written below will be your rough work for this assignment.

Have someone in the class look over your rough work and make suggestions for any questions they feel
have been left unanswered. This person should sign their name on your outline.

Adjust report info accordingly.

Write out the good copy of your report in class. Be sure to follow the format listed below (same as we
went over in class – the bolded words must actually be a part of your report!). Double space and be sure
to number pages in the top right corner. In the top left corner of the first page put your name, your
teacher’s name, the course code (ENG4CI), and the due date.
INTRODUCTION: a brief outline of what the report is about (ie. In this report you will find information about…)
BACKGROUND: the information your reader needs in order to understand your report as well as your own
background in the topic ( ie. What piqued your interest in this topic? Do they need to know about a low donation
rate in order to know why buying and selling is an issue? )
DATA: all the information you researched, divided into separate categories and listed under appropriate headings
SUMMARY: sums up report info and makes a comment on the future of this area of study

Complete good copy and staple items together in the following order:
 Topic, questions and answers
 Good copy
 Works cited
 Rubric
